Description

The 2663 is an Artist series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1975. It was made in Japan by FujiGen. It was also referred to as The Flash or the Iceman Std. Although these were grouped with the Artist series, they have a very different body shape than the typical Artist guitar. This shape was developed by Hoshino Gakki in partnership with Greco (whose version was called the Mirage), Daiwa and FujiGen. The Iceman name was not used until 1978, but these 2663 models are considered part of the Iceman lineage.

The 2663 features a mahogany top on a mahogany body mated to a set-in 3-ply mahogany neck with a 22-fret ebonized rosewood fingerboard with binding and pearloid parallelogram position markers. Components include a Tune-o-matic style fixed bridge, a stop tailpiece with stylized chrome "ashtray" cover, a pair Ibanez Super 70 humbucking pickups with special covers and individual volume and tone controls, a bone nut, speed knobs, and Smooth Tuner machine heads. The output jack is mounted on the face of the guitar.

The 2663TC is a related model with a single triple-coil pickup mounted at the bridge. The 2663SL is a similar model with a sliding triple coil pickup. The 2663 was discontinued after 1977 and replaced for 1978 with the similar IC200.

In this music video for the 1976 Split Enz song 'Lovey Dovey', Phil can be seen playing his Ibanez 2663, a predecessor to the 'Iceman' guitars. He still had the guitar during his stint in the Suburban Reptiles in 1978, evidenced in the video for their hit song 'Saturday Night Stay at Home'
