Powerful additive synth
Additive synthesis demands time, thought, and effort. But can ultimately reward you for what you put in.
I particularly love pushing the k5m into its lower register, and it offers 24 semitones of pitch bend... in each direction! Hitting a low note and bending it down two octaves opens up a crazy palette of sonic possibilities.
It's metal and extremely heavy. Like having a black anvil on your desk. The i/o panel on the back can be rotated 90deg to aid in rack mounting if preferred.
Kawai has made all the sound banks from the option cards available for download on their website (current as of 2024). Most of the preset sounds are classic cold digital stuff from 80's/90's but "Sound Card 10 (Science Fiction)" features much warmer patches.
