Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Korg AX5G.

Features and functionality

  • The Korg AX5G allows for a dedicated bass preset with compressor and reverb, highlighting its versatility for both guitar and bass players.

    Source
  • Users recommend utilizing cabinet impulses to enhance the recorded tone, as the AX5G's distortion can sound thin and artificial without speaker simulation.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • It’s noted that using the AX5G with a Focusrite Scarlett and Amplitube setup facilitates easy guitar switching without reconfiguration.

    Source
  • The AX5G is more suited for practice and live performance rather than recording, due to its limited ability to handle gain properly in a studio setting.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The AX5G functions well when integrated into a digital setup, maintaining sound integrity across different instruments when connected to a DAW.

    Source
  • Reaper is suggested as a suitable DAW for recording with the AX5G, along with free amp plugins like LePou and TSE for improved tone shaping.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to higher-end units like the Pod HD and Axe Fx, the AX5G struggles with producing high-gain distortion tones suitable for recording.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users suggest reducing the gain by 10-15% to achieve a clearer overdrive sound, retaining punch without sacrificing clarity in the mix.

Korg AX5G review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Korg AX5G impresses with its inclusion of an expression pedal, offering versatile control over effects like volume and wah, making it a standout in the sub-£100 category. With 16 amp and overdrive models and 10 cabinet simulations, it provides an array of tones that are surprisingly good for the price. However, the lack of a muted tuner and included batteries is a minor letdown. Overall, it's a solid choice for both beginners and seasoned guitarists looking for a budget-friendly multi-FX unit.

Definitely a professional modeler

This modeling pedal makes me feel like a fish in the water (besides, I am Pisces, lol). With this I get correct distorsion effects from Blues to Heavy Metal and very clear delay, reverb and flanger levels. Otherwise, when I work with harmonics I have no problem controlling feedback.

The pedal can clearly be seen on this instagram picture of Itay Shachar's pedalboard posted and thelazyeyesband's account on january 2017.

This Korg multi-effects pedal is also mentioned in the TotalGuitar/Guitar World interview from April 2022, although the model is not specified. It was used as a chorus with the expression pedal on the songs Hippo and Nobody Taught Me

“Yeah! Hippo is a weird one because both me and Harvey were using strong effects for both rhythm and lead parts. The lead is a chorus sound on a Korg multi-effects unit that we created. There’s an expression pedal that I use to ride the speed. And it’s the same tone I’m using on Nobody Taught Me, just without overdrive.”

It can also be seen on the pedalboard from different live videos.
