Description

For the Laurel Canyon, we developed a more compact cabinet in consideration of the needs of the on the go musician desiring more portability. We tested several different cabinet sizes until we found the one that hit the sweet spot between portability and ability to showcase the tonal range of the Laurel Canyon to the fullest. Controls are Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble, and Master Volume. ‍ Features: Powered by one 5AR4 rectifier tube, 2 x 6V6s and driven by three 12AX7s. The combination creates an unbelievably robust sound. ‍The optional reverb is powered by two 12AX7/ECC83’s and drives through a 2 spring reverb tank. The reverb signal is also parallel to the input signal so there is no loss in tone or power when it’s turned up. ‍The speaker is a made in the UK Celestion Creamback G12H75 at 8 ohms. The speaker outs are comprised of a single 4 Ohm out and an 8 Ohm out, which can only be used individually one at a time. ‍The standard effects loop is a ¼” send and ¼” return non buffered loop. Only time based effects are recommended such as reverb pedals, delays, chorus, etc. Boost and gain pedals are recommended to be placed in front of the amp to avoid clipping the phase inverter.

Like all of the other Matchless amplifiers, the Laurel Canyon is meticulously handcrafted to military-like specifications from start to finish. From the rugged steel chassis to the military spec. parts to the heavy Baltic birch cabinet, only the best materials are used.

The Laurel Canyon is ideal for professional studio work, playing in venues both large and small, and for home practice. A versatile rock amp, the Laurel Canyon packs a mighty punch. From clean and punchy rhythm to sizzling leads, the Laurel Canyon delivers substantial sound in a more portable package.

Matchless Laurel Canyon and Coldwater Canyon Review | GuitarPlayer

guitarplayer.com

Matchless's Laurel Canyon 20-Watt combo is a masterclass in capturing American tones, embodying the essence of the late '60s and '70s West Coast sound with its dynamic 6V6 tubes and lush reverb. The amp excels in versatility, delivering everything from sparkling cleans to gritty overdrive, and its hand-wired craftsmanship inspires confidence. However, its weight may be a drawback for some, and while it channels classic vibes, it could feel less innovative to players seeking modern tonal advancements. Overall, it’s a compelling choice for those who appreciate rich, articulate sound with a nod to vintage heritage.
