Fender ’64 Custom Deluxe Reverb Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Fender '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb successfully blends vintage charm with modern enhancements, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of musical styles. Its handwired construction and authentic tonal qualities are impressive, with rich reverb and tremolo effects accessible on both channels. However, some players might find the speaker's headroom lacking for certain styles, and the input jack connectivity could be improved. Overall, it offers a wealth of tonal flexibility and is a worthy investment for those seeking classic Fender tones with contemporary tweaks.

Fender ’64 Custom Deluxe Reverb Review

guitar.com

Fender's '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb captures the essence of a classic, delivering a versatile tone that thrives across genres, making it a dream for blues, jazz, and rockabilly players. With its hand-wired design and solid build quality, this amp offers a rich, dynamic soundscape. However, it isn't without flaws; both channels sound similar, and some may find the tremolo lacking in depth. Additionally, the protective valve cage can impede access to the fuse holder. Despite these quirks, the overall performance is engaging and enjoyable, offering both vintage charm and modern adaptability.

From this Premier Guitar article / interview: "What about amps? I split my signal between my ’64 blackface [Fender] Deluxe Reverb and a cranked ’67 blackface Vibro Champ. Through each one I had a signal chain consisting of delay, distortion, fuzz, and a “crazy fuzz.” That way I could do one take, but have a bunch of different sounds to work with. A lot of stuff that sounds like layered guitars is really just one or two separate takes, blended in different combinations."
