Critic Reviews

MD100 Review: I'm 56 years old and have been playing for 43 years... | Mitchell | Acoustic Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Mitchell MD100 is a budget-friendly acoustic guitar that punches above its weight. With a spruce laminate top and mahogany back and sides, it delivers a surprisingly rich tone that rivals more expensive models. While the stock frets are thin and could benefit from an upgrade, the overall construction is solid and reliable, making it suitable for live performances. Some adjustments, like truss rod tweaks and upgrades to the bridge and tuners, can enhance playability. Ultimately, this guitar is a fantastic choice for beginners or budget-conscious musicians looking for quality without the hefty price tag.

My first guitar - still used today!

I impulse bought this guitar as a freshman in college, learned 6 chords, and played it once a month or less for the following 2.5 years. Once I was interested in guitar again, I put new strings on it and once the strings were worn in it holds tune for full practice/jam sessions. For the price, and how neglected it was, I can't ask for more out of the guitar.

Great for Beginners

Budget acoustics all have different qualities. This one is a lightweight dreadnought style with a peg bridge and a decently bright sound. It's a very good beginner acoustic. The neck is small enough for little hands and the string spacing is just a tad too tight to be an average adult guitar. The tuners have a nice ratio and smoothness to them.

Dimensions are as follows. Depth - 4 inches body length - 19.5 inches Width at bridge - 14 inches Overall Length - 41 Inches

When I bought mine, I had to use sand paper and file the frets down on both sides. This is pretty common on entry level acoustics. I also had to shave the peg bridge a bit to make sure the pegs didn't fly out when I restrung it. This is still one of the better acoustic guitars I've seen for the $100 range.
