Fender Mustang I V2 Review - Feature-Packed Budget Practice Amp - Killer Guitar Rigs

killerguitarrigs.com

The Fender Mustang I V2 is a feature-packed budget practice amp ideal for beginners, offering a wide array of amp models and effects at an affordable price. It impresses with its range of presets and user-friendly software, making it highly versatile for its size. However, the amp's Achilles' heel is its weak, dark-sounding 8" speaker, which limits its performance beyond practice settings. While it mimics tube warmth well for clean tones, it struggles with high-gain sounds, and lacks a 'mid' knob for tone sculpting. It's a solid choice for beginners but might leave experienced players wanting more.

Fender Mustang I (V2) 20W Practice Amp Review, Amp Modelling At It's Best? - 4Guitar.co.uk

4guitar.co.uk

The Fender Mustang I V2 is a versatile, affordable modeling amp that's packed with features, making it ideal for guitarists seeking a wide array of tones. With authentic amp models, USB connectivity, and the Fender FUSE software for customization, it excels in flexibility and digital recording potential. However, its complexity and lack of a middle control knob may deter some users, and a basic user manual doesn't help. While a few amp models could be better, especially metal tones, it's a minor gripe in an otherwise impressive package for beginners and seasoned players alike.

Not a long term investment

This amp sounded surprisingly good for a little practice amp, and the menu of presets and effect options was intuitive and mostly usable. The problem is that Fender has a history of phasing out the software support for their digital modelling amps. There was a pretty active community sharing presets for the Mustang amps before Fender killed the FUSE software in order to push users towards the newer LT and GT models. That strategy of planned obsolescence has made me wary of modeling amps in general, but if you can find one of these for cheap on the used market it's not a bad buy.

First “Actual”Amp

I used to own those small volume mid and gain kiddie type amps. I got this amp about 2 years ago for my birthday which was perfect because my amp before this (one of the kiddie type ) blew out after having it for so long. I recommend this as more of a practice and travel amp or for someone who is tying to find what sound they like. I personally love how one can create presets from different amps and add peddles and such to the preset in the fender fuse app and then save them to the actual amp as well as remove them so you always have that perfect sound you want right at your disposal. For the price I got it ($120.00) it was definitely a major step up and shockingly cheap for what your getting. Only thing I tend to not use on the amp is the built in tuner as I (as well as many others) tend to have a tuner app on their phone anyway. Overall great first amp and definitely a good first amp to look into.

Decent small solid state amp

I bought this amp because I can't afford anything else currently and it is a fairly decent small solid state amp. I mostly use the bypass function to run my Boss ME-80 multi-effects pedalboard through and it handles that pretty well. The built in amp voicings are ok, they could be worse. The effects and delay aren't very adjustable. The volume is pretty loud for such a small amp. For the money you can't beat the value though.

Good

To start playing, it's super good, it has a moderate volume with which you can practice at home or even rehearse with your band. It has many emulations of classic amplifiers, my favorite is the 65' Twin reverb, for clean guitar playing. It also has various modulation and time effects. In conclusion, it is the perfect amplifier to start with as you can find it at a good price when used.

Pretty nice modeling amp for the price

This is a great amp, considering the price and all of the sounds you can get out of it. I never touched a pedal when this was my main amp. It is great for practice and for those who never really take their guitar out of the house. I recently upgraded to an old crate tube amp, as I am not starting to play more in public. This amp is really only for beginners, and or for practice purposes. Still, it is a great little amp.

Great Beginner/Practice Amp

Light and versatile amp. Cheap and great for beginners to intermediate players. Better then a tube amp in quieter settings thanks to it being solid state. Can be turned down without sacrificing tone.

Great Beginner Amp and Great for Small Shows

I bought mine after the other guitarist in my band came to practice with his and I was surprised with all the amp could do. It is a great amp for someone who is starting off or is low on cash. I used the amp for band practices and to write songs at home, I now use it mainly for writing and for performances at local coffee house. The amp works great but if it is played at a volume of any higher than six a very noticeable burning smell will come from the amp and smell up the entire room. This caused my band to begin putting mics on our amps at band practice which works out well and sounds great but can be expensive.

jimmarchi1

burning smell? is this a modeler with a preamp tube in the circuit? if so check the tube, it probably shorting. The burning smell is the heaters of the tube melting the PCB and ruining your toy. If there isn't a preamp tube then check out the speaker. Since it is only at higher volumes it could be a problem with the voice coil rubbing when you hit the speaker with a lot of power. If that's not it you are fucked. Its something critical in the DSP section of power amp and you might as well just throw her out.

alexandre_gamelas

Nice first amp, worst then a Spider III

Alright first and foremost, this amp as a VERY nice clean tone for a 100$ amp. It comes with a modulation and stompbox software that can also be helpful for new players trying to achiever a nice variety of sounds. The amp is also pretty decent at taking pedals up front.

However, the distorted sounds are pretty much shit, and the "low saturation" "crunchy" sound is pretty much a no factor. It is most definitely not loud enough if you end up in band practice with other entry level amps such as the Line 6 Spider series or even a Blues Junior.

blake_vogl

Cannot take pedals at all

This was my first amp and when i started i liked it. It had a ton of options and mods which at the time sounded like a great idea but after acquiring some pedals i realized the amp couldn't take them. With this being a digital amp the effects on board sounded a bit cheap and when i added even light overdrive at low/mid volume the amp begins to peak and start to get fuzzy sounding. For a bedroom guitarist who doesn't have pedals or someone on a tight budget its a fun practice amp but with any pedals other than delay this amp fall drastically short to comparable solid states by brands like Orange or Vox in the similar price range.

nickgrooves

If it were a tube amp, it would get five stars. No flaws that I can see.

Plenty of volume, and some really good tones. The on-board reverb and delay effects are fun for practicing. The gain tones aren't bad, either. Bought one for my lessons studio and have no complaints thus far. Students love it. The USB connectivity is nice, both for direct recording (demo tracks would be my recommendation) and software updates. I'm a tube lover and a tube player exclusively. If this had tubes, I would gladly give it 5 stars.
