Critic Reviews

Clavia Nord Lead A1

soundonsound.com

The Nord Lead A1 Rack is a unique take on virtual analogue synthesis, offering a streamlined interface that encourages experimentation. Its sound engine and effects are commendable, delivering quality that matches its predecessors. However, the lack of aftertouch, limited modulation options, and absence of a display can be frustrating, especially at its price point. While it excels in creating rich and unexpected sounds, it may not satisfy those seeking extensive control and traditional synth features. Ideal for musicians seeking simplicity and creative exploration, but not for those requiring comprehensive programmability.

The Nord Lead A1 Rack is a synth powerhouse that offers a fresh take on synth modeling with its unique oscillator section and extensive hands-on controls. With 47 waveforms and a staggering 26 voices of polyphony, it delivers colossal, varied sounds that impressively mimic analog warmth. The intuitive design minimizes menu diving, letting musicians focus on creative expression. The only drawback is the single LFO, but the synth compensates with many modulation options. Overall, it's a versatile and fun-to-use tool for sound designers and performers alike.

Nord Lead A1 Review - Nord Almighty - MusicTech

musictech.com

The Nord Lead A1 Rack is a streamlined, analogue-modelling synth that excels in creativity and simplicity. Its standout feature, the Oscillator Configuration Shortcuts, offers immediate and inspiring sound creation, allowing users to easily produce complex soundscapes. While the A1 may not boast the extensive feature set of its predecessor, the Nord Lead 4, it compensates with an intuitive interface that encourages hands-on experimentation. However, its focus on a unified preset collection might not appeal to those seeking a wide variety of sounds. Overall, the A1 is praised for its creative potential and ease of use, making it a valuable tool for musicians with an analogue heart who enjoy crafting unique sounds.

Nord Lead A1 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Nord Lead A1 Rack offers an intuitive interface for quick and easy sound creation, making it a compelling choice for musicians who value efficiency and portability. Its robust build and versatile effects make it a worthy successor to the Nord Lead 2x. While it provides a streamlined user experience, it lacks the NL4's deeper tweakability, which may not satisfy advanced users seeking extensive sound manipulation. Overall, it's a great option for those wanting the essential Nord sound without breaking the bank.

Best analog modeling evar?

I think this is the best sounding analog modeling synth out there. Very intuitive interface, workflow makes sense and is quick to get used to. Very nice buttons and knobs. The rotary encoders are not continuous. This makes it feel more like an old analog synth, but when switching between sounds, you can't tell what state each parameter is in. That's the only gripe I think.
