Description

The Half Horse is an incredibly dynamic JFET based fuzz which has been hiding in the left side of the Pelitaur. What started as an experiment in boxing this circuit up on it's own for fun, turned into an absolute need to let this fuzz live a strong, independent life. For far too long this horse has been cast aside in favor of a certain weird, bird-like creature. It's time he break away and tour with his all new solo album!

Things have been modified from the original left side fuzz circuit of the Pelitaur. Some slight tweaks were necessary to give the half horse enough confidence to come out and stand in the spotlight. These changes yielded a wider gain range, superior dynamics, and changes to the sound circuit (tone) that will please even that guy who "doesn't like fuzz".

Controls GRAIN: a giant knob controlling the gain of the fuzz circuit. This can also be thought of as a 'texture control' OUTPUT: Simply an output volume control SOUND: Controls the sound of the fuzz from dark and mellow to bright and sputtery. (AKA a tone knob)

Specs All top mounted jacks 9vDC center negative power (8mA) True bypass with soft touch relay switching.

Pelican NoiseWorks Half Horse review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

Pelican NoiseWorks' Half Horse Fuzz is a dynamic JFET fuzz pedal that breaks free from the Pelitaur to shine on its own. With its creamy tone, wider gain range, and smooth sound, it excels in delivering rich fuzz textures. The giant "Grain" knob is a standout, allowing for easy foot adjustments, while the top-mounted jacks and silent bypass switch make it a practical choice for pedalboards. Though it offers a lot of grit and dynamics, its tonal flexibility might cater more to fuzz enthusiasts than those seeking subtlety. Overall, a solid addition to any fuzz lover's collection.

A Most Musical Fuzz

I had the chance to test the Half Horse when it was in prototype stage when attending Coe Schneider's "One Day" event. The nondescript box was drool worthy. I couldn't get enough. A friend lent me this box for a few months and I love this fuzz. From soft sustaining tones to a ragged edge's rasp, the pedal is super flexible and truly inspiring. Again, I can't get enough. Pelican NoiseWorks really knocked it out of the park with the Half Horse. At a list price of $155, this pedal is a steal! When my friend asks to get it back, I know I'll have to pony up and get one of my own. I LOVE this fuzz!
