  • The Quasimidi Quasar benefits greatly from being paired with an effects processor like the Alesis Midiverb to enhance its sound quality.

    Source
  • The Quasar's filter has been criticized for poor sound quality, leading some to exchange it for other models like the JD800.

Quasimidi Quasar

soundonsound.com

Quasimidi's Quasar synthesizer offers a diverse range of sounds with its combination of analogue, FM, and additive synthesis, excelling in bass response and multitimbral capabilities. The ease of use and real-time controls are highlights, making it a versatile choice for musicians. However, its build quality is somewhat lacking, with limited editing capacity and occasional glitches. While the Quasar impresses with its rich, retro-inspired sounds, the user sample memory upgrade is costly and minimal. Overall, it's an attractive choice for those seeking a blend of classic and contemporary sounds, but it may not satisfy those looking for deep sound customization.

"We used Chris' music studio equipment, which were synths and samplers like Kurzweil K2000RS, Roland JV1080, Korg 01R/W, Korg Wavestation A/D, Akai S1000, Emu Ultraproteus, Ensoniq SQ80, Ensoniq VFX, Korg MS10, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Quasimidi Quasar, Roland JD 990, Waldorf Microwave, Yamaha SY77, Yamaha YS 100 and lots more, mixed on a Yamaha ProMix 01 and a Yamaha 02R digital mixing consoles. We loaded my GM midis into Chris' Cubase and from there it was easy to assign new sounds to the GM sounds. Eating pizza in Chris' studio too, awesome times to make game music! Thanks for your interest! :) Cheers, Fabian"
