An old, scratchy vintage amp
Old as it may be, you'd expect this to sound somewhat good, but it can only work well on the clean channel. The more distortion/overdrive you add, the more scratchy it becomes, until you reach a point where the sound falls apart into a a thin, little sound that barely even resembles a clean channel.

Even roland's top of the line JC120 Jazz Chorus has that awful, can-of-angry-bees distortion built in. Just put an 80s pedal into your roland. It will sound fine. Just don't use a 70s or 90s pedal design. Think Ibanez 9 series. All the Ibanez pedals from the 80s have their output impedance optimized to sound good through solid state amps. A lot of older designs like the MXR Distortion+ are really designed for tube amps. Try an SD9 Sonic Distortion ;-)

On a side note, it has an "overdrive channel" that acts more like a really dirty boost. But an Ibanez 9 distortion in that? That sounds like a recipe for disaster, though I would try it if I had one of those three pedals. I'll keep this in mind, though.
