Description

The Seymour Duncan Five-Two Pickup is a game-changer for Telecasters, renowned for its ability to beautifully balance the tone across your strings. Designed specifically for the bridge position, this pickup utilizes a clever combination of sand-cast Alnico 5 and Alnico 2 magnets. The Alnico 5 magnets on the lower strings deliver a punchy and articulate bottom end, perfect for those who crave depth and richness in their sound. Meanwhile, the Alnico 2 magnets on the higher strings soften the treble, ensuring warmth and smoothness without losing that classic Tele quack.

This ingenious design tackles a common issue faced by Tele players — the "mushy" low strings and overly bright high strings — by ensuring each note is clear and balanced. The result is a pickup that not only retains the traditional Telecaster charm but elevates it with a nuanced sonic palette that caters to a variety of playing styles. Whether you're crafting soulful leads or driving rhythms, the Five-Two pickup creates a harmonious blend of clarity and warmth.

Key Features:

  • Alnico II and V rod magnets for balanced tonal response
  • 6.7k D.C. resistance
  • 8.2kHz resonant peak for dynamic range
  • Single-conductor, cloth-wrapped cable for vintage authenticity
  • Moderate output suitable for diverse musical styles

Critic Reviews

theGUITARaddict: Review quickie: Seymour Duncan Five-Two

theguitaraddict.blogspot.com

The Seymour Duncan Five-Two pickup impresses with its unique magnet blend, offering Alnico II for treble strings and Alnico V for bass. It delivers clear, warm cleans and thick, articulate distorted tones, ideal for lead guitarists seeking a humbucker-like sound without the muddiness. While its sensitivity to height adjustments might deter some, the pickup's overall performance and tonal versatility earn high praise.

That’s why my sunburst Talman was instrumental in me figuring out what I wanted to do. Because before then I only played on Teles and I was new to the Strat sound. And I do like the twang of the Tele but for some of the newer stuff I’m writing I really like the breadth of sounds you can get out of the [Seymour Duncan] Five-Two set I'm using, especially with the five-way [pickup selector]. It’s really useful.

I care about how dynamic the instrument is. I like having a dynamic response from the pickups. I currently use the Seymour Duncan Five-Twos.

Cody's main love is this 2004 Fender American Standard Telecaster. The only change he's done to it (other than the stage wear) is swapping the stock neck pickup for a Seymour Duncan Five-Two Tele model. He did this because it rolls off the EQ where the original one seemed too bassy and too shrill in extreme settings.
