The live Doktor still uses the original Sequencer Plus sequencer program. Andrew uses this at home as well. Adam is a Logic user.
"I must say it's not completely possible to construct a good feel with a computer. There has to be some musical event taking place that you are not in total control of. With computers it is always the software that counts. We use three basic computers — the Macintosh, the Atari and the IBM. The software I use is the following — Steinberg Cubase for the Mac and Atari, Performer also for the Mac, and Sequencer Plus for the IBM. These are the main packages."
"The heart of my studio is an IBM AT clone, which I usually run Voyetra Sequencer Plus software on", he says, "and then I have modules - I don't have any big old keyboard synths any more. I use a Casio FZ10M sampler, which sounds great, but it's very strange to use. I've just discovered that if you save a whole keyboard setup, you cannot just call up one sound from that to add it to another bank. You have to call up the whole bank. I'm sure there's a way to get around it, but the manual... One of the great features is that it does have editing facilities built in, so you don't need to buy a computer for that. But again, if I can't figure out how to use it, it's not going to be much help."
Both Thomas Leer and Claudia Brücken have home studio setups, although Brücken's is at an early stage in its development. Having lost his Fairlight, Leer has had to settle for a less elaborate, though still useful, personal system. He now owns an Amstrad PC running Voyetra Sequencer Plus software, linking it up to an Akai S900, Yamaha DX7 and Roland Jupiter 6 - the only surviving keyboard from his 1984 line-up.
"There are still folks out there who are trying to work with Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold software. This is for those who still use SP Gold for whatever reason. It's especially for those who have old .sng files and want to work with them.
I use SP Gold for working with the few original native SP Gold files I have been able to locate on old data tapes/CD's.
I've lost (hopefully misplaced) the instrument bank files I created to use with SP Gold. I created them to be able to use melodic mode on the OPL2 FM synth chip found on early sound cards."
