“High Performance!” – 1983 Yamaha SC600 Guitar – Drowning in Guitars!

drowninginguitars.com

The 1983 Yamaha SC600 is a rare gem with a striking neck-through design and versatile tonal options due to its Alnico-5 pickups and coil tap feature. While its brief production run adds to its collector allure, the scarcity is a downside for those seeking this high-performance relic. With its 80s thin neck and unique aesthetic, this guitar is a testament to Yamaha's innovative yet fleeting designs.

Yamaha SGB500, SG300, SC600 (12T Dec 82)

muzines.co.uk

The Yamaha SC-600 struggles to impress in both aesthetics and sound. Its unconventional body design is off-putting, and the claimed playability improvements aren't convincing. While the tone offers some versatility due to the three single-coil pickups and a coil tap, the overall sound lacks warmth and fails to match the richness of its SG counterparts. The narrow neck can hinder performance, becoming unresponsive away from the nut. Although it offers a range of tones, it lacks a wide tonal spectrum, leading to a clinical sound. Ultimately, Yamaha's attempt with the SC-600 misses the mark, unlikely to achieve the popularity of the SG series.

About 45 seconds into the clip at Live Aid 85' we see Kenny Loggins playing one of multiple Yamaha SC-600 solidbodies he used during the 80's. This one being a white one. Seems this was what he used the most in the 80's.

He also had a blue one too, for sale here. A 1982 model - http://www.vintagesilvertones.com/forsale_yamaha_sc600loggins.html
