We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Access Virus Indigo Synthesizer.

Build quality

  • The Virus KB features a Fatar keybed, praised for its superior action, unlike the Indigo's springier feel, compared to M-Audio controllers.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Virus KB's ability to split the keyboard for dual-part use is a noted advantage for versatile play.

    Source
  • The Virus Ti2 is praised for its immense multitimbral capabilities, allowing it to function as a standalone synth in a setup, but users should expect some voice stealing.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Virus Indigo 2 uses the C engine with more options, but lacks the tactile quality of the KB's keybed.

    Source
  • The Novation Ultranova is noted to have more powerful oscillators than the Virus, though it requires more tweaking to match the Virus's neutral sound profile.

    Source

Access Virus Indigo / Virus OS v4

soundonsound.com

The Access Virus Indigo boasts a robust build and excellent sound quality, courtesy of the OS v4 upgrade, offering improved reverbs and delay effects. However, its compact design results in a cramped three-octave keyboard that feels cheap and lacks aftertouch. The small LCD and awkward control layout limit its usability. While the synth shines as a compact sound generator, its limited keyboard and multitimbrality restrict its appeal for traditional players. Overall, it's a stylish but functionally constrained option, best suited for those valuing portability over playability.

Nice blue monster

My second and final synth the Access Indigo 2 version is a nice blue little monster with nice filters and a very warmth sound and has a nice retro-styled blue silver spacey look and thats how he sounds 'SPACE'. One detail the display is weak and flickers and I have to light it up with a external spotlight. To fix this problems is most expansive and besides of that, the synth must return to Germany which is also extra costs. I have a very little studio and because of his size he is ideal as second hardware synth beside my many software synths I use. I owned many synthesizers like the Roland VP330 - Roland Juno 106 - Roland JX3P - Formant modular - ARP Odyssey - Moog Rogue - DGS Scorpion Korg PE2000 - Korg 900PS - Korg DSS1 2x - Elka 505 chromatic - Suzuki SX500 - Firstman SQ10 - Yamaha SK50D - Yamaha AN1x 2x - Yamaha DS55 first synth - Yamaha TG500 - Waldorf Q + XT - Eminent Solina + midi - Ensoniq Fizmo - Emu Morpheus - Emu Planet E - Kawai K5000 - MAM MB33 - Novation Drumstation - Clavia Norlead 2 and Nord modular. There was only room for two synths and the Indigo which I used the most together with the Roland JD800 stayed in my studio. Instead for the most of my old synthesizers came software plugin versions. Nice note: the first owner of this Indigo was the keyboardplayer of the electropop band Hasselhoff from The Hague in Holland.

What was the first track you wrote for ‘Sensational’?

It was “Call Me Anytime”. I wrote that a while back before lockdown. I was just in the studio one day and I had this synthesizer called Virus Indigo. The whole track is made entirely with that synth. I was just playing around, and I wrote the song just like in that one session with myself.
