Acoustic 220 Bass Head (IT May 86)

muzines.co.uk

The Acoustic 220 Bass Head impresses with its robust construction and comprehensive features, offering clean and precise sound ideal for genres like Jazz/Rock and Pop. However, potential UK buyers should be cautious about electrical safety due to improper conversions for the market. While Acoustic assures future compliance, this oversight dampens its appeal. Despite these issues, the amp is a competitive option against high-end alternatives like Trace Elliot, especially for those seeking tonal control and clarity. Overall, it's a solid choice for discerning bassists, but ensure correct setup for safe use.

Cronos used his reliable Acoustic 220 bass amplifier, paired with a couple of 4x12 cabinets, as mentioned in the Ultimate Guitar interview titled "Venom: The Only Black Metal Band!" This setup likely contributed to the iconic sound of Venom's "Welcome to Hell" and "Black Metal" albums. While he probably used Marshalls for live performances in the 80s, the Acoustic 220 was crucial for studio recordings, potentially enhanced with distortion pedals.

The old classic Rob sound was an Acoustic 220 through a 1x15 and a 4x10. He drove this hard for a long time and it eventually gave up. I think there was another Acoustic for 0+2=1 but it wasn't as good a sound. You can see the original setup in the Live & Cuddly videos
