Critic Reviews

Alesis iO Dock

soundonsound.com

The Alesis iO Dock serves as a practical solution for integrating an iPad into a music production setup, offering seamless connectivity with popular apps like GarageBand. Its ease of use and comprehensive input/output options make it appealing for musicians on a budget. However, the build quality feels somewhat cheap and its lack of portability due to power requirements limits its use on the go. The device performs adequately but doesn't support all apps, which could frustrate users relying on specific software. Overall, it's a convenient tool with some caveats for iPad musicians.

Alesis iO DOCK: A review - Practical Usage

practicalusage.com

The Alesis iO Dock boasts a solid build and useful MIDI functionality, making it a versatile tool for integrating iPad apps into music setups. Its audio quality is decent, and it offers a variety of connections for seamless MIDI communication. However, the lack of USB audio support can be a drawback for some users, and the composite video output seems underutilized for music purposes. Overall, it’s a stable choice for those looking to expand their pedal board’s capabilities or integrate MIDI devices with an iPad, but it may not satisfy all audio interface needs.

iPad Review: the Alesis iO Dock : Ask.Audio

ask.audio

The Alesis iO Dock offers a promising solution for iPad musicians, integrating audio and MIDI capabilities seamlessly. Its design, however, feels lightweight and plasticky, which might not satisfy those expecting a more robust build. While it supports stereo input and phantom power, the microphone preamp can be noisy at high levels. Despite these quirks, it excels as a live performance tool due to its solid mounting system. However, limitations like lack of USB type A support for MIDI keyboards and video output options are notable downsides. Overall, the iO Dock is a mixed bag—useful for enhancing creativity with the right apps but sacrifices the iPad's inherent mobility.

iPad studio integration

Using the iPad in the studio without this device usually turns into a mess with flimsy 3.5 mm connector, iRig and a dangling USB to midi adaptor. This docking station does it better: slide your iPad into the docking station and it becomes one device with 1.4 inch jacks, microphone jacks, midi, USB, charger ...

craig_learmont

Simple but powerful dock adapter

I like this product because it's quiet, does audio, MIDI and charging all in one. I put a 30 pin to Lightning adapter to use it with my iPad Mini. Works great with GarageBand, Loopy, etc.

techforze

Not compatible with newer iPads.

iPad Air doesn't work without (expensive) apple convertercable. Do not think a cheap ebay version will work: it won't. Further more; non generic power supply. I've warned you, stay away from this.
