Critic Reviews

Universal Audio Apollo Twin MkII review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin MKII QUAD is a powerhouse for any musician looking for top-tier audio quality and real-time tracking capabilities. With its excellent Unison preamps and access to a superb range of UAD plugins, it offers an unmatched recording experience. The new Quad Core option adds even more processing power, making it ideal for those seeking to handle complex projects. However, it connects only via Thunderbolt, and frustratingly, the necessary cable isn't included. Despite this minor setback, the Apollo Twin MKII is a stellar choice for both newcomers and veterans, elevating studio setups to professional levels.

Recording Magazine Review: Universal Audio Apollo Twin MkII

recordingmag.com

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin MKII QUAD is a compact powerhouse, praised for its enhanced converters and seamless integration with UA's DSP-driven plug-ins. The Unison mic preamps deliver exceptional transparency, and the interface doubles as an effective monitor controller, saving desktop space. While its ecosystem ties may feel like a marketing strategy, the quality and versatility it offers are hard to beat, making it a top choice for many.

positive

Universal Audio Apollo Twin MkII

soundonsound.com

Universal Audio’s Apollo Twin MKII QUAD is a powerhouse for desktop recording, marrying excellent sound quality with versatile monitor control features. It shines with enhanced DSP power and improved audio performance, plus the added utility of built-in talkback and speaker switching. The device is particularly appealing for those with multi-unit Apollo setups, offering seamless integration and control. However, it does skimp on essentials like a Thunderbolt cable and lacks the ability to manage preamp settings on cascaded systems—a minor oversight for an otherwise stellar interface.

positive

Universal Audio: Apollo Twin MkII Audio Interface | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin MKII QUAD is a powerhouse of a desktop audio interface, boasting impressive DSP capabilities and stellar sound quality. Its robust build and Unison technology offer seamless integration with a DAW, making it a versatile tool for home and professional studios alike. However, its reliance on a wall wart instead of bus power can be inconvenient for mobile setups, and a single Thunderbolt port might limit connectivity in complex setups. The absence of MIDI I/O and a second headphone jack are minor drawbacks. Despite these, the interface's exceptional performance and UA ecosystem make it a valuable investment, albeit a pricey one.
