Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Alesis V25 USB-MIDI Keyboard Controller.

Features and functionality

  • The V25 keybed is highly praised for its quality, especially for the price, but requires adjustments in the V25 Editor software for optimal velocity settings.

    Source
  • The layout of pads directly to the left of the keys is appreciated, but the pads require excessive force to trigger, impacting usability.

    Source
  • The V25 is best suited for accompaniment tasks, given its 2-octave range, compared to full keyboard models often used in piano rhythm games.

    Source
  • Some users experience issues with the Pro-1's arpeggiator and the V25's mod wheel not functioning when connected via USB and DAW.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users report the V49 model suffers from issues like multiple hits from a single pad tap, suggesting inconsistent pad performance across the series.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A DIY solution seen on YouTube involves using tape to enhance pad sensitivity, although this voids warranty and isn't recommended for new purchases.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users suggest the Alesis V series, including V25 and V49, lacks in build quality compared to dedicated pad controllers like the Maschine, pointing to a need for separate devices for best results.

    Source
  • The Novation Impulse is suggested as a more versatile controller option for the Pro-1, with both hardware and DAW control capabilities.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Alesis V25 can be mapped to PC games using software like Midikey2key, providing versatility beyond music production.

    Source
  • The Pro-1's USB port can handle both MIDI input and output, allowing connection through a DAW with correct MIDI channel settings.

    Source
  • It's possible to route MIDI from the V25 to the Pro-1 using a DAW and a USB interface with MIDI output, like those from Tascam or M-Audio.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Suggested rhythm games for the V25 include DJ Max Respect and EZ2ON Reboot, highlighting its potential use in gaming.

    Source
  • Users successfully connect both the Alesis V25 and Pro-1 to a laptop to route MIDI through a DAW, despite initial setup challenges.

Great for Beginners

I picked up the Alesis V25 to use with FL Studio, and it's been a solid choice for a beginner-friendly MIDI keyboard. The keys feel nice for a budget controller, and the velocity sensitivity works well for expressive playing. The drum pads are decent, though they require a firm touch to register properly.

Integration with FL Studio was pretty smooth after some quick mapping, and the assignable knobs are great for tweaking parameters on the fly. It’s a simple, no-frills controller, but for the price, it does exactly what I need. If you're just starting out with music production, this is a great entry-level option!

It gets the job done

I love this midi keyboard and I use it to make electronic music but the only issue I have with it is that it is small and does not have all 88 keys. that is fine though for what you could expect out of a small keyboard.

My go-to keyboard controller

I have this right behind my keyboard, front and center at my workstation. The keys are semi-weighted and feel very natural. It also includes some pads for drum or sequencing input and a handful of programmable knobs that are perfect for mapping to your macros in Ableton.

bitsnake

not as good as i thought it would be

keys are chunky and ridiculous to play with velocity levels on, velocity tracking needs to be turned off in your daw for this piece of junk to be even useable

giving it 3 stars because i only use it for the twiddly knobs instead of its actual main purpose (the keys)

Good for the £££

I bought this as a gateway into Midi and VST's for my DAW. it plugs straight into the computer, needs very little in the way of set up and does the job very nicely! i'll stick with this for the time being until i need to upgrade to one with more keys and functionality, but it's a great beginner bit of kit!

visvge

Gets the job done but really basic

I don't use the drum pads because they're placed on the left side and one of the keys recently went dead but that may just be because of my use of it. Besides that It does everything you need a basic midi keyboard to do and you can edit the sensitivity of the keys, Nothing amazing but recommend it for beginners who want a cheap midi controller.

cellochill

simple love the pads

Very nice 2 octave USB controller with pretty nice feel to the keys for the price. Love the pads!

Wonderful MIDI Controller/ Keyboard

I've had it since probably about July of Last year, and I love it.

glcrs

Eh, it's ok.

I've had this keyboard for about 2 years, it's great for little ideas but for what I make it's not the best.

clarityxmusic

Bulky but Does the Job

The v25 was a solid purchase and has done exactly what I wanted it to do. The pads are sensitive but the keys take pressure.
