I don't demand too much of it - it delivers what I need.
It did a 3 star job for what I wanted. T̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶p̶i̶g̶n̶o̶s̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶'̶s̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶m̶o̶s̶t̶ ̶p̶o̶r̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶g̶u̶i̶t̶a̶r̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶. [Update - I've since replaced it with a Zoom MS-50G - a vastly more versatile tone machine (no drum section tho)] My expectations were never going to be high for this little device. It looks and feels like a toy but I figured a pignose wouldn't demand high fidelity effects. They've proven to be a very compatible match. The PockRock brings to my old school no frills Pignose some of the whistles and bells commonly found in today's practice amps. I tend to just use it for a touch of reverb but it also offers chorus and tremolo and a few other sounds I never use; phaser or flanger (who does?). I don't use its distortion since the pignose is such a monster but the drum machine gets some use as a fancy metronome for guitar exercises.
I have both a Roland Microcube and VOX DA5 which may sound 'better' but my Pig & P̶o̶c̶k̶R̶o̶c̶k̶ [Zoom Multistomp] make for a smaller, lighter combo.
One thing to watch out for. It comes with a power pack and that's fine for use at home. Otherwise however It's powered by two AAA batteries which are barely adequate. A handful of rechargeables will be required for any prolonged use away from a power socket. Half an hour or so is typical battery life - very lame! Even so it gets me by; I don't demand too much of it and it delivers what I need.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
Keeping the effects subtle is the secret to getting the best out of this device. Push it hard and its limitations soon become apparent - Less is more.
Title: It's a toy
Body:
I was really quite disappointed with this device, although I must say that for its price it's not bad, but it's also not great. When you turn up all the gain on the metal, it produces very strange sounds that are not typical of a guitar, the Echo doesn't work well, it can't be adjusted to taste, and the Reverb is either too dry or too strong. It's a good multi-effects pedal to start with, but for a user who has had contact with something better, this is only good for experimenting or getting you out of a bind.
