Critic Reviews

Arturia Minimoog V

soundonsound.com

Arturia's Minimoog V falls short as a Minimoog emulator, with its oscillators, filter, and envelopes differing significantly from the original. While it shines as a polysynth, offering big, warm sounds and flexible MIDI control, its CPU demands and digital quirks, like clicks and overloads, hamper performance. If you're seeking a faithful Minimoog experience, this isn't it, but it still offers a compelling sound palette in its own right.

negative

Arturia Minimoog V | Vintage Synth Explorer

vintagesynth.com

Arturia's Minimoog V Original delivers the iconic Moog sound with modern enhancements, offering pristine audio quality and digital flexibility at a fraction of the price. While purists might miss the analog quirks, the software's polyphonic capabilities, extensive patch memory, and additional features like an arpeggiator and modulation matrix push the Minimoog beyond its vintage roots. The interface's large screen presence is justified by its detailed controls and authenticity. Despite the screen real estate it demands, this comprehensive software synth is a cost-effective and versatile tool for both nostalgic tones and innovative sounds.

In the Sound On Sound interview titled "Producing Eminem & Fiona Apple," Mike Elizondo stated: "By the time we did [Eminem's 2005 hit] 'Just Lose It', we had completely embraced the Pro Tools process of working. That song had a lot of sequencing. I think the bass sound came from a Minimoog soft synth made by Arturia, while the main keyboard riff came from a soft synth called Plastix, and there was another sample that [keyboardist] Mark Batson played, which was a random snippet of a percussion part from a sample library. The song was mainly soft synths, all done in the G5."
