The BBE Opto Stomp (Non-Monacle) version is a tale of two pedals—one highly praised for its robust build, clean tone, and value, and the other marred by persistent ticking noises. While the original version boasts minimal noise and natural action, the mustache version falls flat, plagued by an intolerable glitchy sound. Though it retains some positive features like true bypass and solid construction, the removal of the -15 dB switch and the clicking artifacts make it hard to recommend. Seek out the older models with caution, as newer iterations seem to disappoint.

The reviews were right. This is a subtle yet very musical compressor!

In my compressor research (I will save you some time, just start and stop your compressor research at ovnilab), this little gem kept popping up. And as much as the "new" version of this pedal is universally panned (the all-yellow one with the monacle silk screen), the older version (white with a yellow face and red lettering) is universally praised. And I am now lucky enough to count myself among those that can praise this pedal. I put it at the very beginning of my signal chain, and turned it on, and from the very first note, I could tell a difference. It seemed like it was slightly emphasizing everything I liked about my tone. The same note, played one after the other, simply sounded fuller and more musical with the Opto Stomp on. I love this pedal.
