Tiny Titan Packs Surprising Punch
When we first got our hands on the Blackstar Fly 3, we were admittedly skeptical. A battery-powered amp that actually sounds good? In our tests, this little powerhouse quickly proved us wrong.
The compact, lightweight design immediately caught our eye. While the plastic construction might raise some eyebrows, we found the build quality solid for the price point. The controls feel sturdy and responsive, with chunky knobs that operate smoothly.
Sound-wise, this amp punches well above its weight class. We were impressed by its wide, three-dimensional sound that defies its tiny stature. The clean tones are crystal clear, and the gain flexibility rivals much larger amps. However, metal enthusiasts might find the built-in drive channel lacking for their needs.
The onboard delay is a nice touch, though we found it can get washed out easily at higher volumes. We loved the MP3 line-in for jamming along with backing tracks.
For us, the Fly 3 is a fantastic practice amp for guitarists on the go or those living in tight spaces. Its impressive tone and portability make it a great value, though we wish the power supply was included rather than an extra purchase.
If you're looking for a compact, versatile practice amp with surprisingly good sound, the Blackstar Fly 3 is hard to beat. Just don't expect it to replace your main gigging amp.

"Finishing up rehearsals here in Tokyo with B’z... Japan’s biggest rock band! Been in the thick of it! Missing home and my family but looking forward to playing multiple arena shows in all cities all summer... Thanks to my bud @philx1111 for telling me how much he loves his @blackstaramps practice amp when we recently jammed together. They kindly gave me one a while back and I finally remembered to pack it! Thanks guys! It’s now way more fun “hotel room jamming” with some gain and volume! And, I told B’z guitar badass Tak Matsumoto about it and he has also picked one up and digs it too! Ok, if you’re in Japan come and see a B’z show! 30 years of non-stop chart topping arena rock!"
