Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander.

Features and functionality

  • The TAE allows adding an effects loop to vintage amps lacking one, enhancing their versatility significantly.

    Source
  • The effects loop on the TAE is not stereo, which some users find limiting, though it still functions effectively for most applications.

    Source
  • The routing of effects through the TAE requires passing through its 30-watt power amp, which might not align with users looking to use it solely as an effects processor.

    Source
  • The new TAE model includes Bluetooth capabilities, allowing iPad integration, which is absent in the original version.

    Source
  • The new TAE model offers a 30W power amp compared to the original's 100W, and lacks a mono line out and footswitch capabilities.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to the Fryette PS, the TAE uses a solid-state power section, while Fryette relies on 6L6 tubes, which may require more maintenance.

    Source
  • Mesa Boogie Dual and Triple Rectifier amps are reportedly unsupported due to TAE's impedance curve, which can be risky with certain settings.

    Source
  • Some manufacturers like Suhr, Germino, and Friedman reportedly void warranties if their amps are used with the TAE, highlighting potential compatibility concerns.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Using a 2-ohm amp with the TAE might cause issues; a Weber Z Matcher can help avoid impedance-related problems.

    Source
  • Users recommend checking the effects loop levels to ensure optimal performance when integrating additional pedals like Chase Bliss Clean and Source Audio Collider.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The TAE can function as an audio interface, enabling direct recording via USB, though some users find monitoring through it confusing.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners highlight the high-quality, adjustable reverbs and delays, which would otherwise necessitate expensive pedals.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The TAE excels in live setups, offering effects, IR use, and recording capabilities, making it versatile for various applications.

    Source
  • The TAE's internal effects are applied directly to the speaker output, which suits users who incorporate multiple effects pedals into their setups.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The new TAE is positioned at half the price of the original, attracting buyers looking for similar functionality at a lower cost.

Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander is a powerhouse that seamlessly modernizes your tube amp experience with impressive audio features and flexible connectivity. It excels in sound quality, allowing you to crank up your amp without disturbing the peace. However, the lack of a mobile editing app is a significant drawback, limiting its usability on the go. Additionally, the cooling fan may distract in quieter settings. While it may be overkill for casual gigs, it’s an invaluable tool for serious players and studios. Overall, it offers excellent value for the features provided.

"Boogie heads are like finding a wild horse or a bear and trying to make it bend to your will," Hauch jokes, citing his acquisition of a Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander, a Fortin Blade Whitechapel boost pedal, and a Fortin 33 Fredrik Thordendal Signature, all of which allow him to sculpt the traditional Boogie sound with unusual precision.
