Description

The Scrambled Octave is a replica of the Ampeg Scrambler, a rare and expensive vintage effect pedal. It is an octave up fuzz that has a unique and open sound, unlike most other octave fuzzes. The texture knob controls the amount of octave, allowing for subtle hints or full-on mangled chords. The blend knob blends the octave fuzz with the clean guitar signal, offering a range from completely fuzzed out to completely clean. The BYOC Scrambled Octave is an exact replica of the original circuit, using specific transistors and diodes. It has no volume drop and reduces hum noise when turned on. The only difference from the original is that it has true mechanical bypass, a status LED, and a standard 9VDC adapter jack.

BYOC Scrambled Octave Review | Guitar Jar

guitarjar.co.uk

The BYOC Scrambled Octave pedal delivers a stellar blend of fuzz and octave, perfect for achieving that sought-after vintage sound. Its easy-to-use controls make it accessible for builders of all levels, and the true bypass ensures your tone remains intact. However, its reliability largely hinges on the builder's skill—follow instructions well, and you’re golden. While it shines in creating unique tones, it may not be for those wanting a straightforward setup. Priced moderately, this pedal is a tempting choice for those looking to stand out, but DIYers should be prepared for the assembly challenge. Overall, it’s a worthwhile investment for adventurous musicians.

Build Your Own Clone Scrambled Octave Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The BYOC Scrambled Octave pedal channels a wild, vintage-inspired sound that stands apart from modern fuzzes. With its unique octave fuzz character, it delivers an aggressive tone perfect for classic rock styles. While its quirky personality may puzzle some players used to refined effects, its charm shines through with bold, unrefined textures ideal for Hendrix-like leads. However, it lacks versatility, primarily excelling in specific settings and is best enjoyed with the Texture knob wide open. At an affordable price point, it offers a distinctive addition to any pedalboard, provided you're ready for its unpredictable nature.
