Carr Skylark Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Carr Skylark is a vintage-inspired powerhouse that marries Fender Harvard charm with modern innovations. This 12-watt combo delivers exquisite chime and dynamic overdrive at manageable volumes, thanks to its dual-6V6 architecture. Its build quality is top-notch, featuring true point-to-point wiring and a classy design. The tone controls offer surprising flexibility, and the MOD reverb tank is as lush as classic Fender units. While its $2,390 price tag might induce sticker shock, the Skylark’s sonic versatility and craftsmanship justify the investment. A dream for tone chasers, though not for the budget-conscious.

Review: Carr Skylark Guitar Amp | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Carr Skylark 12-Watt Combo Amp is a versatile powerhouse that outshines its classic counterparts. With a built-in attenuator allowing output reduction to as low as 1/100 watt, and advanced EQ controls, it offers a spectrum of tones—from bright jangle to robust rock crunch. The Skylark's all-tube reverb circuit and high-quality Celestion speaker enhance its sound profile, making it a superb platform for pedal-driven overdrive. While the price tag is steep, its ability to deliver diverse, rich tones makes it a valuable asset for serious players seeking a dynamic and adaptable amp.

Carr Skylark Review

guitar.com

The Carr Skylark 12-Watt 1x12" Guitar Combo is a versatile marvel, blending vintage inspiration with modern innovation. Its standout features include a lush spring reverb, clever power attenuator, and the ability to shift from '50s tweed warmth to '60s blackface clarity. The EQ controls, particularly the Middle, offer remarkable tonal flexibility. While it delivers juicy overdrive and sparkling cleans, its 12W output may not satisfy those seeking loud, clean tones. The built-in attenuator is top-notch, enabling low-volume play without sacrificing sound quality. Despite minor limitations, the Skylark shines as a stellar choice for home, studio, and small gigs.

There are always at least two! I increasingly view analog and digital electric guitar as separate instruments. On the analog side, I use mostly guitar, pedals, and amps I’ve made myself. These days I veer away from using pedalboards in favor of devising ad hoc signal chains to suit the situation at hand. Fave gear that I didn’t make includes my Trussart Steelcaster, an old Gibson Trini Lopez, a ’63 Strat, a Carr Skylark amp, and a lovely brownface Fender Tremolux.
