Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about DOD FX20-B Stereo Phaser.

Features and functionality

  • The DOD FX20-B is known for its six-stage phasing with an asymmetrical sweep, giving it a univibe-like sound in some settings.

    Source
  • Users appreciate the FX20-B's capability to phase shift in a step pattern, although this may also be seen as a malfunction by some.

    Source
  • The FX20-B has a mellow four-stage phasing effect and produces a tremolo-like sound, especially effective behind delay and fuzz pedals.

    Source
  • The FX20-B has a second output that provides a different phasing sound, closer to a classic phaser or univibe, when used independently from the main output.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The FX20-B is often compared to the EHX Small Stone, though it offers more control options than the latter.

    Source
  • The FX20-B is described as having a "super swoosh" similar to a Small Stone but more intense, making it a noisemaker option rather than a general phaser.

    Source

User experience

  • The pedal is described as dark sounding when engaged, often resulting in a loss of high-end frequencies during use.

    Source

  • Users have explored the FX20-B in stereo setups, running it through a Neunaber Immerse and into multiple amps, which can enhance its phasing effects.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Users find the FX20-B works well both in front of and behind a Fuzz Face, with distinct tonal variations depending on its placement in the signal chain.

    Source
  • When placed just before or after dirt pedals in the chain, the FX20-B can create a dominating, mid-range compressed tone that may require EQ adjustment.

    Source

Build quality

  • Many units are missing battery covers, but replacement covers can be found on Etsy for around $10.

    Source
  • Some users resort to 3-D printing to replace missing battery covers, though these replacements might not match the original's durability.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • A used FX20-B can sell for over $100 on platforms like Reverb, highlighting its value as a collectible pedal.

jimmarchi1

my buddy Zach has sworn by this phaser since 1996.... it has a similar circuit to the small stone and bad stone by EHX using FETs to phase, but the voicing is completely different.... don't let the cat out of the bag on these, they are still cheap and we don't want them to attain vintage value so we can't afford to buy them up
