  • Highly customizable sound with three-band PEQ

CONS

  • Does not integrate well with all pedal setups

  • Learning curve due to complex EQ settings

  • Some users find the depth knob underwhelming without modifications

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about DOD Boneshaker.

Features and functionality

  • The Boneshaker requires the gain knob to be above 2-3 o'clock to achieve a distortion, otherwise it behaves more like an overdrive.

    Source
  • The Boneshaker has two gain stages: one before and one after the EQ section, allowing specific frequency emphasis in the second gain stage.

    Source
  • The depth knob may not be effective with standard 6-string guitars, as noted by users who see more impact on 7/8-string guitars for low-end shaping.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Owners find it excels with extended range guitars and active EMG pickups, particularly for Drop C or lower tunings.

    Source
  • Works well when paired with other pedals like the EP Booster or Klon KTR for a versatile gain stage.

    Source
  • For chugging at low tunings like G#, the depth knob acts as a tone fixer, tightening the "oomph" effect rather than significantly altering tone.

    Source
  • The pedal can be repurposed as a modeling tool when placed later in the chain, functioning as a sculpting tool with the distortion turned down.

    Source
  • When used with a ProCo RAT, the Boneshaker can produce unique, "trippy clippy" tones, suggesting versatility in experimental setups.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • At $40, it offers a unique sound that other pedals can't match at that price point.

    Source
  • Historically, a pricing glitch allowed some buyers to purchase the Boneshaker for as low as $10, highlighting a rare opportunity for value.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users report it offers a wider low-gain range compared to other pedals, needing to be turned up higher to match similar gain levels elsewhere.

    Source
  • When used with a DeVille or Peavey Roadmaster, owners find the Boneshaker delivers the best performance compared to other amps.

    Source
  • Some owners liken the Boneshaker to the HM-2 when the mid frequency is maxed out and the high frequency is minimized, creating a chainsaw-like effect.

    Source

User experience

  • Some note it becomes trebley and shrill with the gain knob turned between 2-3 o'clock, but the parametric EQ can adjust this.

    Source
  • Owners report the blue LED on the pedal is extremely bright, often requiring tape to soften its intensity for comfortable use.

    Source
  • Owners report that dialing in the Boneshaker's EQ requires patience, as extreme settings can lead to unmanageable tones, indicating a learning curve for optimal use.

Almost.

A great idea in theory. In practice leave s abit to be desired. The parametric EQ is pretty versatile, but the distortion is kind of an "all or nothing" affair. It starts as a mild overdrive until it just kind of detonates into something bordering on fuzz.

Also, the depth knob does almost nothing. But there's mods to fix that online.

jimmarchi1

that description sounds a lot like certain british nonmaster amps....murky dirt, murky dirt and then... mayhem.

D

Dope grit

This thing is a doom machine, it cleans up nicely to, turn down the mids and lows to get one hell of a raunchy rhythm tone
