Description

Introducing the EarthQuaker Devices Gary, a fuzz effects pedal that masterfully balances chaos and control, crafted in collaboration with Idles guitarist Lee Kiernan. This pedal is a powerhouse of tonal versatility, merging pulse width modulation fuzz with a dynamic natural overdrive, offering guitarists an expansive sonic palette. Whether you're diving into metal, punk, or exploring blues and psych rock, Gary's dual controls allow you to sculpt your sound with precision.

On the right, the pedal unveils a ferocious square wave fuzz, where the Yes! control dynamically adjusts the envelope sensitivity, letting you modulate the pulse width for everything from thick, sustaining tones to biting, aggressive riffs. Engage an expression pedal for hands-free control, perfect for live performances and creative studio sessions.

The left side of Gary channels the spirit of classic amp overdrive. Inspired by the discontinued Gray Channel, this side delivers a full-range opamp drive, with the Go control letting you dial from a clean boost to saturated distortion. The Flexi-Switch® Technology adds another layer of flexibility, allowing both momentary and latching footswitch operations.

Designed with the meticulous craftsmanship EarthQuaker Devices is known for, and built by hand in Akron, Ohio, Gary is more than just a pedal—it's a versatile companion ready to redefine your sound.

EarthQuaker Devices Gary brings the Idles' Fuzz to your Board - gearnews.com

gearnews.com

With its chaotic fuzz and dynamic overdrive, the EarthQuaker Devices Gary is a thrilling tribute to Idles’ signature sound. Developed in collaboration with guitarist Lee Kiernan, this pedal offers a compelling twofer experience, enabling players to explore a broad spectrum of sonic destruction. The built-in envelope follower adds an exciting layer of responsiveness, making each performance unique. However, while it excels in delivering rich, textured tones, it may overwhelm those seeking subtlety or versatility in a straightforward pedal. If you thrive on heavy, wall-of-sound riffs, this could be your new go-to, but it might not suit every style.

IDLES' Lee Kiernan gets signature EarthQuaker Devices Gary pedal | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

EarthQuaker Devices' Gary pedal delivers a playful duality with its fuzz and overdrive options, making it an exciting addition to any pedalboard. Its interactive controls evoke a sense of experimentation, allowing players to dive into a soundscape that can range from smooth overdrive to explosive fuzz. However, while it excels in versatility, the pedal's reliance on external power and the absence of battery operation may limit its portability for some musicians. Overall, Gary is a solid reimagining of the beloved Gray Channel, perfect for those looking to add a dynamic edge to their tone.
