Description

Experience the power of a fuzz pedal like never before with the EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Reaper V2. This unique pedal combines the essential features of the EarthQuaker Devices' popular Hoof and Tone Reaper fuzz pedals, along with an old-school analog octave up, giving you a wide range of sound possibilities.

Originally released as a limited edition run in 2010, the demand for the Hoof Reaper V2 was so high that EarthQuaker Devices decided to reintroduce it to the market. This pedal is capable of creating everything from subtle octave-up overtones to crushing octave squalls that simulate exploding amp stacks.

Each effect can be used individually, but the order of effects is preset for optimum performance. The Hoof Reaper V2 features a germanium/silicon hybrid muff-style fuzz, which lends itself to a tighter, cleaner sound than most muffs, making it more cutting and discernible in a band setting.

The Tone Reaper is a vintage-style fuzz device based on the "3 knob" bender, a silicon/germanium hybrid that can produce a wide range of tones from every bender era with careful tweaking of the tone and fuzz controls.

Key Features:

  • Combines the features of Hoof and Tone Reaper fuzz pedals, with the addition of an old-school analog octave up
  • Capable of creating a range of sounds from subtle octave-up overtones to crushing octave squalls
  • Germanium/silicon hybrid muff-style fuzz for a tighter, cleaner sound
  • Vintage-style Tone Reaper fuzz device based on the "3 knob" bender
  • Each effect can be used individually or in series
  • Silent relay switching for superior life and more comfortable feel underfoot
  • Flexi-switch on the octave effect for either momentary or latching operation
  • Powered by a standard center-negative 2.1mm 9-volt adapter.

Setup and maintenance

At 01:30, Jonathan talks about alternating between a Data Corrupter and Hoof Repear for the first pedal in his chain, depending on what songs are on the band's setlist. With regards to the latter, he says "it has to go first [in my pedal chain] because the tentacle octave effect thats in the middle.. if you put it at the end it, um, it just freaks out and gets really bright, which could be fun but when we play live I try to keep it more contained, so if I'm playing, you know * plays lead riff to The Beths' 'I'm Not Getting Excited' * to get that kind of Octavia... kind of octave up [to give leads] some extra juice"

I love me some EarthQuaker Devices! I have been able to get a warm and round overdrive from pedals like the Dunes and Plumes, a full and lush reverb from the Dispatch Master (my desert island pedal that I never leave home without!), and my playing has been taken to new exploratory and creative places because of inspiring pedals like the Afterneath. Not only does EarthQuaker Devices make great pedals, but they also have a team of great humans that make me proud to represent such a wonderful company.
