A classic that can't be ignored

If you ever heard a string synth from the 70's there are three options:

1-Eminent 310 organ 2- Solina String Ensemble (which is basically the synth part from an Eminent 310) 3- Another synth that used the same method.

Although not the first TOS IC based string synth, the Solina is probably the most famous.

MkI is when Eminent replicated what JMJ had on the Eminent 310 organ. That has no modulation button ( which engages 6 BBD IC modulated by 6 LFOs)

MKII has the modulation button, you can have the modulation button. You can choose to have it on or off.

MK3 has stereo output but unfortunately the modulation is quite different, you can say, less lush, it’s lighter and the inners are quite different.

The SE-IV: added LEDS on the front panel.

The MK2 is by far the most sought after, pure analog lushness, 20kg of history. Every single string synthesizer follows the MK2 sound, period.

Another important thing about this unit, is that is the original Eminent Solina, not the rebranded ARP, that although might have been more famous it was just ARP putting a sticker on top, like they did with the Siel ORCHESTRA.

Fun Fact: If you pair this beast with a filterbank, such as the Behringer 914, you can get a Vox Humana type sound, a classic from the (incredibly unreliable) Moog PolyMoog.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

All buttons down can be a bit overbearing, and tough to make fit in a mix. I personally prefer to use either just Violin for dreamy light sounds, Violin and Viola for a classic sound, and the other two as an alternative darker patch. The classic sound of the Solina was paired withe the Small Stone Phaser pedal, but adding tape echo, and spring reverb make it a spaceship of a sound!
