Critic Reviews

The Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster Review | David Boles, Blogs

bolesblogs.com

The Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster, particularly the Custom Shop model, is lauded for its suitability in playing the Blues, thanks to its low string action and soft "V" neck that make bends a breeze. The guitar's TBX Mid-Boost tone control adds a unique, creamy sound that stands out. While the price can be steep, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 depending on the model, the review suggests the quality and craftsmanship justify the investment. However, the TBX control might not appeal to all initially, and the Masterbuilt models remain out of financial reach for many. Overall, the review holds a positive sentiment towards this guitar.

Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

A blend of tradition and modernity, the Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster is a guitarist's delight. Its soft 'V' neck and superb build make it a joy to play, urging players to work for their vibrato while enjoying exceptional clarity. The vintage-style hardware and noiseless pickups offer classic tones with modern versatility. Yet, the exclusivity comes at a high price, and some may find the skinny frets unappealing. Overall, it's a luxurious Strat for those who want to channel Clapton's legendary sound, albeit with a price tag to match.

Classic 50's Strat with the now Classic Clapton electronics.

The first signature model Fender ever issued. Before the days of custom shop as we know it today, EC used these loaded with lace sensor pick ups...... the world and it's mother know the story.

Personally I had a 2000 model and sold it wanting to shred the signature model thing in 2007. Many moons later I replied it with a 1989 7-up green example. Really great axe with many tones in it, the soft V neck profile is a dream to play and I have opted for just this profile when commissioning custom instruments.

The 25db mid Boost circuit is a fantastic tool, no need for any overdrive and it can be applied as heavily as you wish. The TBX circuit sort of makes the strat sound like a les Paul.

But do be advised to get the best out of it, you need to be using a good tube amp.

According to Lee Dickson, Eric Clapton used this guitar on the Journeyman album and on stage in the late 1980s. Clapton said that he chose this shade of red to match the Ferrari he owned at the time. It is actually a Ferrari paint colour - Torino red. Lee Dickson said that he thought that this guitar or the one in lot 67 was played by either George Harrison or Andy Fairweather Low during the 1991 Japanese Tour.

Eric Clapton said that he used this 1987 Fender Stratocaster in custom '7-Up' green metallic finish a great deal. He thinks this colour is "great". He calls it '7-Up' green after the colour on the fizzy-drink can of the same name. Clapton commissioned the custom paintwork on this guitar
