Description
The SIG:X amplifier represents a new generation of tube amplifier design, offering players effortless and intuitive control over different types of amplifier behavior and a wide range of highly refined tonal qualities previously unavailable from a single amplifier.
In 1980, design engineer Steven Fryette began developing advanced channel switching technology to allow guitarists the ability to make seamless transitions between channels and gain modes. In 1989 Steven introduced the first true three-channel tube amplifier – The Pittbull Classic. The SIG:X builds on this technology and establishes a new standard for channel switching amplifiers that blends vintage and modern character with outstanding tonal flexibility.
As with all FRYETTE amplifiers, the SIG:X amplifier beautifully accentuates the inherent qualities of any instrument. It breathes and dynamically responds to your playing technique exactly the way a great guitar amp should. And as stomp boxes have gained more widespread appeal, you will find the SIG:X to be pedal friendly and ultra-responsive to the many colors pedal effects produce.

Didn’t expect it to be so good.
In my quest for a legendary old VHT Pittbull Ultra Lead with KT88 power tubes, I started looking at alternatives. One of these is the Sig:X. It has a similar dry and unforgiving tone to it. Something the Ultra Lead is well known for. But I didn’t expect it in this amp. But where the Ultra Lead is quite narrow-minded (extremely good at one thing), the Sig:X is much more versatile. It has a lot of tonal options and switches all over the panel. Initially they intimidate and confuse. But when taking a bit of time experimenting and dialling in the amp, they all make perfect sense. They all do something to the tone that is clearly audible. If you (like me) want to know what you‘re actually doing, the manual explains it very well. This amp can do crystal sparkling cleans, nice crunch, strong rythm parts and searing leads. Three channels. A boost*. And a happy guitarist.
- no it doesn’t need a tube screamer. It already HAS a boost!

"Its vesatile and the clean channel is killer" Rob says.
Basically it’s the same company as [VHT]. The only difference is the faceplate and the logo. I have been using the Pittbull Ultraleads since ’97 maybe. With Anthrax, on tour I was using Marshall 2000s, the DSLs, just because they were really easy to find anywhere in the world, and they are a really solid, consistent amp, but in the studio it was always the Pittbull Ultraleads for me. When we did the Big Four Tour with Anthrax, Steve [Fryette] sent me his new amp called the Sig:X. At the time it was his latest. That became my amp for that tour and I have been with it ever since. I love it. It's a more versatile amp. The Pittbull is a three-channel amp also but the clean channel is unusable - for me at least. The clean channel on the Sig:X is a lot more versatile. And the gain, it has all the crunch I need. It’s got that big, classic VHT/Steve Fryette sound. On the Sig:X it’s KT88s [valves].

Very different, but also a signature sound with high gain. Where the Sig:X is dry and unforgiving, the TripleRec is much more forgiving and produces a more „fat“ sound.
