A decent guitar to get started with 7 strings
Ibanez is known for offering some decent entry-level gear, and the RG series is definitely the best bang for the buck. However, it comes with some compromises: pickups are enough to play, but definitely sub-par if you want a good sound and definition for recording; neck joint needs some improvement (I can literally see a small gap in an area between the neck and the body, and after removing and reattaching it, the gap remained there, so not a bad position, just a bad build quality); electronics are OK, but don't expect the volume to lower the drive level the same way as some better gear does. If you're "volume 10 all the way", then it's not a problem. The neck is a 3-piece maple, so it's straight and stable as it can be, that's a plus at that price range. The body seems to be a 2-piece wood, with is also great at this price level as I've seen most guitars being 3 or more pieces of wood glued together, which doesn't look good (it's definitely the worst thing visually). The bridge and tuners are OK if you're you're not one of those people that hit hard on the strings. I've been playing and recording no problems, would only fix the tuning on the lower B string after 4 or 5 songs because I bend it a lot with some riffs. I have the same problem with $1000+ value guitars for that matter. If you have gotten this one used, it's definitely worth upping the pickups to an EMG 707 or a decent pair of Seymour Duncans for 7 strings and upgrading the pots (EMG has bundles that include both pickups, pots, etc, but I'm almost sure Seymour Duncan doesn't). Also, a new nut, like Graph Tech, would improve tuning stability a whole lot.
