Use cases and applications
-
The 1-watt Marshall JTM1H is considered ideal for bedroom levels when no one is home, offering sufficient volume without overwhelming the space.
Source -
A 5-watt tube amp can suffice for band practice and small gigs, though it may lack the desired headroom at high volumes.
Source -
Micro amps like the JTM1H excel for mid-gain blues where output tube distortion is desired, but they struggle with high-gain applications that require deep bass.

Comparisons
-
A 5-watt amp, like a Bugera or Vox Mini, is comparable in volume to a trumpet, indicating it's quite loud for residential settings.
Source -
A Vox AC15H with a switchable triode mode demonstrates how reducing power can tailor an amp's output to suit quieter environments.
Source -
The JTM1H lacks the low-end punch and clean headroom found in higher wattage amps, making it less ideal for high-gain metal tones.

One-and-a-half trick pony
It's a nice little amp that – while claiming it has switchable 0.1 to 1 Watt power output – can get quite loud with a bigger cabinet. I've read from the designer of the amp that the actual wattage is higher, more like 2.5 Watts, but Marketing decided to claim otherwise. Anyway. The JTM1 is pretty bassy and proper cabinet pairing is essential for a decent tone. I can recomment using a Torpedo Live to try different cabinets with it. The amp makes fuzz pedals come to life! Additional tone controls to adjust the sometimes overwhelming bass would have been nice but I do see the appeal of this two-dial design they went for. Looks are over 9000.
