Great amp, bloody loud
Full on 1959 stuff, harsh bright cap and all. My only gripe would be the cathode biased power section that runs at kind of a low voltage compared to its bigger brothers. It's almost a bit too smooth, not fuzzy enough. But that's really just a nitpick.
Great modding platform too, despite being PCB based. I must confess I have defaced mine with various added switches and such, but man is it cool.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
Plugged into Treble High, jumpered to Normal High. Normal Vol 4, Treble Vol 6-10, bass 3, mids 6-10, treble 6-8, presence 6.
Modded "settings": bright cap 500pf, depth up a tiny bit from 0, and a bigger bypass cap on V2.

The only way to get that genuine marshall Plexi sound at low volumes...
What a great amp, very loud despite being 5/20w seriously you will need an attenuator to use this in the studio if you want to crank it up. Whilst this amp is comfortable with pedal boards going into the front, the FX Loop is really awesome for Modulation/Delay?reverb FX pedals.
You can pair it up with any cab of your choice, personally I opted for the 212 matched cabinet in the Studio Vintage range which compliments the amp a great deal.

20 watts is probably a good half the actual SPL of a 100 watt through a speaker(s) of the same efficiency, wattage is nonlinear when translated to actual loudness.

Great Amplifier
I've been using this amp almost exclusively for the last year+. The light breakup is incredible, it takes boost & drive pedals well, and the amp gets great heavier gain tones. I only wish it was 2 dedicated channels so a proper clean/dirty selection with independent EQ was possible.

Incredible plexi tones
Superb vintage tones. From Lovely cleans, to 1960’s warm breakup, blues, through to 60’s-70’s rock tones and beyond. The matching SV212 cab is a great tonal match. Very versatile with 4 inputs and can blend sounds by patching them together. Works brilliantly with gain pedals or modulation effects.

paul_gilbert_official For the “vocal” on “Holy Diver,” I used a 90s Ibanez Ghostrider, a JHS Twin Twelve V2, a Supro Drive, and a Marshall JTM45. I took photos of the gear and settings for nearly all of the recording of “The Dio Album,” so more to come! Link in Bio to listen and pre-order!

In this Instagram post, Peter Stroud says:
Marshall Studio SV20’s still going strong! My rig with Sheryl Crow since 2021.
One for crank, the other for clean.
The Crank: EL34’s through a mid-70’s Celestion G12M. Mic’d with a vintage Shure Unidyne 545 and sE VR2 ribbon mic.
The Clean: 6L6’s through a blackback Celestion G12H-30. FOH gets signal from a Two Notes Torpedo X with the Blackback IR from Pete Thorn’s Signature Tones Collection. Sounds almost identical to the real blackback in my 112 cabinet and translates better out front.

Multiple Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage tube heads can be seen in the background of this show at the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall on February 12, 2015. These were most likely used for stage decoration or display, as MiA can be seen adjusting a Fractal Axe FX-II during soundcheck at 1:34:28.
