Critic Reviews

PRS 509 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The PRS 509 brings a fresh take on single-coil and humbucking sounds, offering versatility with its unique three-magnetic-pickup design. The guitar impresses with its superb build and feel, delivering a humbucking guitar with single-coil sparkle. However, it's a significant investment, raising the question of whether it delivers the pure single-coil experience some might expect. While the 509 doesn't quite replicate the classic Strat or '59 Burst tones, it offers a rich, modern sound that's EQ'd and compressed for fullness. If you're seeking a guitar that blends humbucking power with single-coil brightness, the PRS 509 is a compelling choice.

PRS 509

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

The PRS 509 is a tonal powerhouse, offering versatility akin to a Swiss army knife without resorting to tech gimmicks. Its innovative pickup system delivers an impressive range of musical tones, from luscious single coils to hearty humbuckers. The craftsmanship and aesthetics are quintessential PRS, promising superb playability and stunning looks. However, this all-rounder comes with a significant price tag, potentially limiting its audience to those who can afford to invest in its versatility. If your budget allows and you seek a guitar capable of handling any musical style, the PRS 509 is a compelling choice.

Hun says that originally he had wanted the PRS 513 model however this has moved to the “private stock line” and thus has become more expensive.

He goes over the 5 pickups on the 509 model which can be used to create 9 different tones as opposed to the 513 model which can create 13 tones.

Hun compares the sound of this guitar to his well-known Fender 62 Telecaster custom. He specifically mentions playing “Songbird” and “Monster” on this PRS guitar
