Owner Insights

Setup and maintenance

  • Owners recommend using .11 or "skinny top heavy bottom" strings for tuning stability in drop tunings like Drop C.

    Source
  • Adjusting trem springs and neck tweaks are necessary when setting up for low tunings to avoid sloppy sounds.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Swapping to Grover locking tuners significantly enhances tuning stability, especially when using the tremolo bridge.

    Source
  • For those bothered by the Tremonti signature, removing the truss rod cover or covering it with tape is a simple cosmetic modification.

    Source

User experience

  • The Tremonti SE is noted to be quite heavy, which can be a drawback for some users.

    Source
  • Both the Tremonti SE and the Standard 24 are praised as versatile and good value, with owners expressing satisfaction regardless of choice.

    Source

    Source
  • The Tremonti SE's toggle switch with independent volume and tone controls is considered more versatile than the Standard's push-pull coil split for tonal variety.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Tremonti SE is effective for lower tunings, as many Alter Bridge tones are achieved in such tunings.

    Source
  • The Tremonti SE is praised for its performance in heavy rock and metal genres, particularly with distortion, making it less suitable for clean tones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Tremonti SE has a singlecut body with 22 frets and independent volume and tone knobs, while the Standard 24 has a doublecut body with 24 frets and a blade switch.

    Source
  • Users who prefer heavy rock and distortion find the Tremonti SE's humbuckers more suited to their style compared to the Silver Sky's single coils.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Despite a lower sale price, the Tremonti SE's original pricing can be misleading; user preference suggests the features may offer better versatility.

Critic Reviews

PRS SE Tremonti review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The PRS SE Tremonti offers impressive versatility with its wide contrast sounds and powerful low-end, appealing to both beginners and seasoned players on a budget. While it's a solid and giggable instrument, its weight might not suit everyone, and it lacks coil-split options and a hard-tail alternative. The unique single-cut with vibrato mix remains a standout feature, though the control layout may not be ideal for all players. Overall, the guitar's robust build and strong sonic presence make it a compelling choice for those seeking quality at an affordable price.

Great Guitar

This guitar is very smooth playing. It has a beautiful dark flametop, maple trim, tremolo and nice sounding pickups. I always loved the PRS bird inlays and this is certainly no exception of that. This guitar has really nice build quality and is ensured with its heavy build. You have access to nice tones with a tone knob for each pickup and a volume for each pickup as well so you can use some nice mixes when on the center position of the pickup selector. Overall this is an amazing guitar that stays in tune, looks great and plays amazing, I don't have any complaints.

Tour-tested guitar with room for customization

This guitar was given to me while I was on the The Greatest Slide Show On Earth Tour in 2013. To be honest, I wasn't interested in it at first. but over time I grew to love it. Its now my main guitar on the road

It is a Les Paul style guitar but has a longer kneck and a 10" fretboard radius.

I only ever had two complaints about the guitar: I'm not the biggest fan of the stock pickups, and the wrap around bridge has given me alot of trouble with string breakage. Upgrade those two things and you've got yourself a damn fine axe.

In this video, I talk about the features, and how the guitar has held up playing in excess of 100 dates per year. There are also some live clips so you can hear how its sounds.

A lovely guitar, albeit expensive now

I remember winning an auction on this guitar from ebay back in 2014. It was a beautiful guitar but had to sell it months later due to financial expenses. Fast forward to today, it has jumped up in price that I am unable to afford another one. All I can do is dream now.

Excellent guitar for the money

Bought this on a whim at G.C. used.

The action and build quality was superlative. Finish like satin and sounded great. Even if I bought on new and I would again if this one got stolen; is a great value. The weight is lighter that models of this style and yet great sustain.

Excellent guitar, but not much special

First things first, this is a great guitar for the money. That being said, there is nothing that makes it overly Tremontiesque. It really is just a SE single cut with a trem and Tremonti's name on the headstock. Still, a great guitar.
