Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Rivera Silent Sister ISO Cabinet.

Build quality

  • MDF construction can produce significant dust; some prefer birch plywood to avoid this during cutting.

    Source
  • The gooseneck mount for the mic often fails, causing the microphone to fall onto the speaker cone without an option for replacement.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Consider a box-within-a-box design with melamine foam to prevent sound coupling and enhance isolation.

    Source
  • The Rivera Silent Sister lacks the ability to accommodate multiple microphones or combine different speakers, limiting tonal flexibility.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • An adjustable port on the baffle could allow for better sound control and experimentation with tone.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Cover rock wool or fiberglass insulation with fabric to prevent fibers from contaminating the mic and for skin safety.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • A gooseneck-mounted mic allows for flexibility in positioning to capture different tones within the cabinet.

    Source

User experience

  • It's noted that small isolation cabinets often introduce comb filtering, affecting tone quality, according to experienced users experimenting with similar setups.

    Source
  • Despite being marketed for isolation, the Rivera Silent Sister can still be too loud for neighbors, even when placed on an Auralex Gramma pad and covered with moving blankets.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users living in condos found the Rivera Silent Sister inadequate for isolation compared to other methods like DIY iso cabs.

Great product

The Silent Sister is a great solution to the problem of recording guitars without making yourself deaf and driving everyone else crazy. It is an awesome product. I only wish they offered the Vintage Celestion 30 model in a black cabinet.

You can't change the speaker?

tphester

You could change the speaker, but it would take some work (and $$$s). My point is that you can only buy a new Silent Sister with Celestion Vintage 30s in the tan model; the black models all have some slightly less high-end type of Celestion speaker. Based purely on aesthetics I thought I would prefer the black model when I first went to get one. Now that some time has gone by I don't really care any more; I might even prefer the tan one now that I'm used to it!

"So for this tour i've gotten these two Silent Sisters, which are great cabs. They're iso cabs, and inside, one V30 speaker, and i've got a 421 (Sennheiser MD 421) and a 57 (Shure SM57) on that."

He uses Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (first revision) with a Divided by 13 FTR 37 (not pictured), which he also relies upon heavily in the studio. He likes combining the characteristics of multiple amps to achieve his tone, also using a Marshall EL34 100/100 and a Marshall JMP-1 that was being modded for his rig by Voodoo Amplification. These amps go into Rivera Silent Sister isolation boxes loaded with Eminence speakers.
