Shure SRH1440 and SRH1840 Review

headfonia.com

The Shure SRH1440 headphones are an impressive entry in the open-back arena, offering a balanced sound profile that caters well to music lovers. While they don't quite match the refinement of the pricier SRH1840, the SRH1440 provides a compelling listening experience at a more accessible price point. The headphones excel in delivering clarity and a smooth auditory experience, though they may fall short in bass depth and treble refinement compared to their big brother. For those seeking a forward-sounding headphone with easy drivability, the SRH1440 is a solid choice, though longer listening sessions might reveal its less natural vocals and slightly glaring treble. Overall, the SRH1440 is a worthy contender for audiophiles on a budget, but the SRH1840 still takes the crown in Shure's lineup.

Shure SRH1440 Review - Major HiFi

majorhifi.com

The Shure SRH1440 impresses with its detailed, lifelike sound that excels in clarity and articulation across the frequency spectrum. While its plastic build and clamping force might deter some, the comfort provided by velour padding is a redeeming feature. Compared to competitors, it holds its own against the Beyerdynamic DT880 and outperforms the HiFiMan HE400s in high-end detail. The Grado SR325e falls short in comparison due to harsher highs and less controlled bass. For those seeking a balanced open-back headphone around $300, the SRH1440 is a strong contender, though the Beyerdynamic DT880 might suit those preferring a more relaxed sound.

Shure SRH1440 Professional review: Shure SRH1440 Professional - CNET

cnet.com

The Shure SRH1440 headphones deliver impressive sound with a detailed and bright profile, ideal for audiophiles seeking clarity over bass-heavy tones. They excel in comfort and build quality, promising longevity with a two-year warranty. However, their large size and inability to fold make them less travel-friendly, and their open-back design means sound leakage, limiting private listening. While they miss an integrated mic and might not satisfy bass enthusiasts, they offer a solid investment for home use and those who appreciate intricate soundscapes. For audiophiles, these are a worthwhile addition, albeit at a premium price.

Shure: SRH1440 headphones | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

The Shure SRH1440 headphones deliver smooth, natural sound with a pronounced emphasis on highs, making them ideal for detailed mixing and critical listening. While they lack the bass depth of closed-back models, their open-back design minimizes resonance and distortion, ensuring clarity in mids and highs. Ideal for those who favor high-frequency detail without harshness, they come well-equipped with accessories, including multiple cables and velour-covered ear pads. However, bass enthusiasts might find the lower end lacking below 64 Hz. Overall, a strong choice for those seeking clarity and high-end prominence.

The Truth

I own 4 pairs of headphones, VMODA M100's, Audio Technica M50X's, AKG K240 MKII's and these. I do most of my mixing on my M50X's and M100's, but these are my go to headphones for when making final mix decisions and mastering. These are not fun headphones, there big, and extremely flat. But what they offer is the truth, what I mix on these comes out the same on my professional monitors. You don't feel the bass with these but you can clearly hear them and compare them to the rest of the mix. If your going to buy these headphones just for listening pleasure, I wouldn't recommend them, but if you live in the city and can't use your monitors all the time or at all, these are a god send for those moments.
