Critic Reviews

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Review - RTINGS.com

rtings.com

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones have garnered praise for their balanced midrange, sturdy build, and versatility in studio settings. Their detachable cable and comfortable fit make them a reliable choice for both professional and casual use. However, they fall short in noise isolation, making them less ideal for noisy environments, and their closed-back design limits soundstage spaciousness. Additionally, they can leak sound at higher volumes and lack wireless connectivity and control features. Overall, the ATH-M50x offers excellent value for studio use and critical listening, but are less suited for commuting and sports activities.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X review: A durable standard - SoundGuys

soundguys.com

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x remains a reliable staple for both casual listening and audio production, boasting a foldable design and decent sound quality. While the swiveling ear cups and included removable cables are highlights, the overall experience is dampened by proprietary cable connections, heat build-up, and discomfort for those with glasses. The sound is mostly good, though lacking in low-end punch, making it less ideal for bass enthusiasts. Compared to its Bluetooth counterpart and similar models like the ATH-M40x, it's a mixed bag. Overall, it's a solid choice if found at the right price, but not without its quirks.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones are a studio staple, offering a balanced audio profile that accurately represents lows, mids, and highs without exaggeration. This makes them excellent for critical listening and studio mixing. They're comfortable for long sessions and come with useful accessories like detachable cables. However, their plastic-heavy build may not appeal to everyone, and they aren't ideal for those seeking a bass-boosted sound signature. Overall, these headphones stand out as a solid mid-range choice for both home and professional studio use, delivering high-frequency clarity and accurate bass depth.

Very fragile

I don't like that these headphones are too fragile. The good thing is that the cables are detachable.

My favorite babies.

My favorite babies.

If you know me, you know these headphones. They've been absolutely EVERYWHERE with me, and every tune I've ever made was mixed and mastered on these headphones.

The M50x's are built like tanks and can take a beating, all while looking beautiful and sounding fantastic. Highly recommend to anyone looking for the best-in-all-cases headphones.

I can't stress enough how important it is to get to know your monitors and headphones rather than upgrading. If you know your headphones' frequency response like the back of your hand, you will be able to train your ears to mix and master like a professional using $20,000 monitors in a treated studio.
