The Tweedtone10 from Sonic Pipe Amps in Tweed Hand Wired All Tube An Exclusive product to The Music Gallery of Highland Park, Illinois

The 5 watt, 1x10" combo has been a staple of the amp world since the early 1950's. It has withstood the test of time because, through its simplicity, amazing tones are achieved. The Tweedtone10 by Sonic Pipe Amplifiers has it's own spin that makes this a must own.

Let's start with the ALL tube design. No solid state rectifier here, this one features a 6Z4 Rectifier Tube that allows the amp to sound open and rich. You'll hardly miss reverb with how harmonically rich and complex this little guy sounds.

The controls are very simple. Volume and Tone. Personally, I dime the volume and roll off the guitar's volume to clean it up which allows you to tap in to the array of over driven tones the Tweedtone5 has. The tone control allows for the right amount of variation to brighten up a dark guitar and to warm up a bright instrument. Though the circuit is simple, the sound it creates is harmonically complex.

It is powered by a single 6V6 power tube that allows this amp to break up with classic over drive when pushed and purr with warm sweetness when you back off the volume on your guitar. With the amp dimed and a Tele with the volume at 4, I achieved some of the warmest, sweetest tones I have heard in recent memory. Bringing the guitar volume up brings on some raucous, natural overdrive that can easily be tamed by slightly rolling off.

The Carbon Composition Resistors and Orange Drop Capacitors are very reliable, provide long life and are very quiet when used in an audio circuit.

The speaker is an 10" Celestion that makes this amp sound fantastic no matter what kind of guitar you are playing. The bottom end never gets loose or flabby, even Les Paul's and ES-335's maintain their articulation.

The cabinet is made from 18mm pine which is sturdy enough to handle the rigors of the road, plus it truly contributes to the tone. The entire cabinet resonates, only adding to the fullness and making it an inspiring playing experience.

A good quality amp but I have no idea about this brand.

I picked up this amp from a local pawn shop for around $200. It's a tweed Princeton clone with 10" Weber 10A100 speaker. Surprisingly this amp is handwired, and its cabinet is made from real pine instead of cheap MDF. I tried to look more about these amps, and from what I read about them online, these amps are made overseas and are sold re-branded by different sellers. The speakers on mine don't appear to be stock, from what I have read about these amps they didn't come stock with Weber speakers, looks like the previous owner had them replaced. It sounds like a good old Fender tweed amp and works great as a practice amp or for recording stuff at home. However, it's just a puny little 5-watt amp, I don't use it for live gigs.

its kinda silly not to handwire a champ/princeton, it would take longer to screen 20 PCBs than to build 20 on eyelets.

Now that you mention it, indeed, handwiring the Princeton does make more sense. Well, that explains why it's handwired.
