Critic Reviews

Tannoy Reveal 502 studio monitors review: A hidden gem — Creatorbeat

creatorbeat.com

Tannoy's Reveal 502 studio monitors stand out as a solid choice for budget-conscious home studios, offering a balanced and accurate sound that rivals more popular options like JBL and Yamaha. Their impressive clarity, particularly in the highs, and a non-fatiguing listening experience make them ideal for long sessions. However, early models had issues with electronic hum and slight volume discrepancies between speakers, though these don't significantly impact performance. While lacking in low-end thump compared to larger drivers, the Reveal 502's overall sound quality and front bass port design make them a versatile and rewarding pick for content creators and musicians alike.

Tannoy Reveal 502 & 402

soundonsound.com

Tannoy's Reveal 502 monitors deliver impressive audio quality at an affordable price, making them ideal for small studios or home setups. With a balanced sound, wide sweet spot, and decent bass definition, they handle vocals naturally and maintain clarity across the spectrum. While the bass can be slightly less tight due to ported design constraints, this is minor given their cost. Stylish yet straightforward, these monitors are a solid choice for budget-conscious producers seeking reliability and performance.

Bang for the bucks!

The Max Volume is more than enough for a Near-fiel Studio Monitor. (105db SPL) The THD is pretty low even at high volume. The 5" woofer doesn't reproduce a lot of bass, (at 49HZ they start to roll-off) although the speakers sounds pretty clean and balanced through the whole spectrum (In comparison with other speakers in the same price range e.g. KRKs).

Good for little Studios, Wide Stereo on a small distance

works nice, very clear Sound, but it have to be on a loud level to hear everything nice and powerfull, but the low freqs are balanced nice, the mids are pretty neutral (better than KRK in my honest opinion), so the Sound stays same. and also the Stereo spread is amazing.

i think for that price it's the best you can get nowadays ;)

Nice speakers for home studio.

To my ears little "home studio", it suits me PERFECTLY. The sound seems accurate on all frequencies. Compared to my old speakers (KRK) living room, this is the day and night! If one looks at a speaker distance (say 2 meters), the stereo image feels very well represented.

azrof

My monitors of choice.

I got these monitors in 2014. They look a bit more rugged now but they are still going strong.

Great Value

Sometimes I find that mixing on these doesn't translate to my car or headphones very well-- but the quality is very good-- fatigue is very low on these.

markb2222

We used these in our studios at Cox Media Group. They were the best full room monitors I've ever heard. But, you're right about mixing for the car or phones. We always used a small Fostex type monitor for that.

P

Not a bad speaker but not the greatest

it's got some good quality sound to it, it's amazing for a cheap speaker only spent 99$ on it. but it doesnt have alot of huge dynamics, and almost little to no bass, making mixing slightly difficult. (headphones are the better way to go.)

D

Reliable sound for mix

clear sound, good price. they don't pump the bass too much or color the sound as the krk
