Critic Reviews

Tannoy Reveal 502 & 402

soundonsound.com

Tannoy's Reveal 402 studio monitors impress with their affordability and sound quality. While not groundbreaking in design, these compact monitors deliver a commendable audio experience, especially in small spaces. The bass, though slightly smeared due to their size, remains credible, and the mids and highs offer clarity and definition. However, they can sound a bit reedy when pushed hard. Ideal for home studios, the Reveal 402 presents a wide stereo sweet spot and a natural vocal presence. Despite minor bass overhang, they provide excellent value for their price, making them a solid choice for budget-conscious users.

Best value hands down

These are small enough to throw in a backpack, just like the KRK GoAUX which goes for 4x the R402 price.

I used a handful of mid-end near field studio monitors before, and the R402 is easily the best out of equivalent products from KRK, M-Audio, Presonus or Behringer.

Despite its small size, it packs a bunch of sweet low end frequencies that will instantly sound gratifying, whether you're using it as studio monitors or desktop/bookshelf speakers.

Highly recommend for the price!

Best monitors for their price range

You cannot buy any other great monitors for the price. Those monitors sounds really good, even thanks to the bass reflex structure. They don't play so loud, because the woofer saturates quickly on higher volumes, but if you have a really tiny studio, those maybe can be the best purchase for you.

Buyed recently to be used as live monitors... definied sound but not so powerful

I first heard them in duo with a pair of Adam A7... they work good, less stereophonic comparing to the A7 but still a well definied sound. Using them with my keyboard i notice that they have a powerful tweeter... maybe too powerful, on the high frequencies it goes very loud, but you can solve it switching the incorporated Hi Cut switch.

Number three on Andrew's list of essentials for the home studio, in this blog post. Andrews says, "I think the 802s are the best monitors in their price range. In fact, they've replaced a pair I had which were significantly more expensive. The sound clarity is impressive, and the bass response is super solid. As an added bonus, I really like the Monitor Link feature which saves me from some cable-related annoyances."
