First Impressions: Lovepedal High Power Tweed Twin (HPTT) Overdrive Pedal – HomeToneBlog.com

hometoneblog.com

The Lovepedal High Power Tweed Twin Overdrive captures the warm, fat sound of a classic Fender amp, making it a delightful choice for fans of the "tweed tone." Its horn-like mid-focus and dynamic response make it a player's pedal, especially with a Telecaster. However, it seems to play better in a single-guitar setup and may not hold attention long-term compared to other options like the Mythos Lark. While it shines with specific guitar setups, it lacks universal appeal, making it a great niche addition rather than a must-have.

Great med to high gain vintage Fender-style overdrive!

There is a slight delay engaging the effect and a tiny bit of noise when doing so, but has amazing sound. Keith Richards and Niel Young in a box. Cleans up wonderfully with your guitar volume knob and is very responsive to how hard you play the strings, giving tube-like dynamics when playing on a solid state and increasing the sensitivity and range of gain on a tube amp. I normally put the volume at slightly higher than the bypass signal and put the drive at a minimum to keep the compression (which comes witht the higher gain levels) to a less ''thuppy'' level.

Great sound, disappointing build quiality

This pedal was marketed as a high-end "boutique" offering, but in reality it's cheaply made, with irreplacable micro components and plastic parts. The three-way switch no longer works on mine, and is hard to replace.

Still, the sound is great. A simple circuit based on the classic Electra drive makes this a decent Tweed-style overdrive. For the time being, I use it into a clean Twin Reverb as my main source of overdrive. The one setting that works is bright and cutting, which is what I want.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Into a clean amplifier, the output level is at unity gain around ten o' clock.

Dark but chimey.

Goes from low-gain compression to tasty (almost fuzzy) crunch, quite a dark sounding overdrive, adds weight to my Dano and has plenty of headroom if required. When I first got this I used it as an always on 'cleanish' tone, but these days i'm favouring it more as a straightforward drive.
