Description
The J Rockett Audio Designs Archer Ikon is a versatile overdrive pedal, and an homage to a legendary 1990s-era stompbox. This pedal isn’t just about distortion, it can also function as a clean boost, adding a new dimension to your sound. As you introduce gain, the Archer Ikon artfully blends it with the clean signal, creating a magical balance that's perfect for every musician.
This pedal uses diodes associated with the iconic gold-hued original, producing a sound that's similar to its silver counterpart, but with more gain and warmth. The Archer Ikon is transparent by design, allowing you to dial in gain without significantly altering the tone of your guitar. This unique feature makes the Archer Ikon more versatile than you’d think. Crank the gain for a killer tube-esque distortion, or dial it back for a subtle, yet flavorful boost.
But the Archer Ikon is not just about the sound, it's also about simplicity. It operates with a straightforward 3-knob layout: Output controls the volume level, Treble takes your tone from dark to bright, and Gain controls the amount of distortion.
The Archer Ikon is a surefire way to enhance the character of your sound, offering a unique blend between gain and clean signal that's both versatile and transparent.
Key Features:
- Employs diodes associated with the iconic 1990s-era gold overdrive
- Shockingly transparent — dial in gain without significantly altering the tone of your guitar
- Delivers slightly more gain than the silver Archer, with a touch more low-end warmth
- Output, Treble, and Gain knobs for straightforward operation
- Can function as a clean boost or a distortion pedal
- Runs off of 9-volt power, but has an internal charge pump to double its voltage to 18 volts (Do not plug the Archer Ikon into an 18-volt adapter — you’ll blow its protection diode!)

Most authentic sounding reproduction of the famously useful gold Centaur
It's identical sounding with the same character to the soulful Klon Centaur, but clearly a smaller enclosure with different potentiometers.

The sweetest OD and Boost!
Full disclosure; I've known one of the owners since HS, '82. Having said that, I read all the hype and so on, about this pedal, the history, and the Klon. Simply put, this pedal is a must have, as it handles a few chores very well; OD and Boost. Rock solid, quiet, smaller real estate, and most of all just fantastic sounding drive. Transparent? What's that. I'll this; now matter how high the gain, I can still hear my guitar and amp. Important? You decide. It's gritty and smooth, and pushes a slightly overdriven amp to nice breakup. My rig; Laney VC30 2X10, Fender Blues Jr. Squier J. Mascis JM, Fat Tele with BG Seymour stacked in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck. Many pedals, I usually have my Archer on at all times, with gain at 9 o'clock, volume at 10 o'clock and tone at about o'clock.

Clean Boost, High Gain, Transparency...A Tru Ikon
I have been wanting an Archer after seeing a buddy of mine use his and after finding out Jonny Two Bags uses it with his Social D rig. Although not the silver they use, I was able to grab the gold Ikon at a good used price. Picked it up, brought it home, and messed with it. I can definitely say this is a bad muthafuckin' pedal. It is very transparent and does not color you tone at all; rather, it sweetens it. It is you having your cake, with sprinkles, and being able to eat it. All of it. With the output up and gain down, it serves as a clean boost to push your sound. And as soon as you turn up the gain, it can take you from a nice lil' crunch to a roaring overdrive (which surprised me considering most Klon/Klone users appear to play dad rock). The treble adds even more flavor to your tone as well, and add a nice little chime when used on the clean channel. Overall, the Ikon is fucking worth it - I don't see myself getting rid of this pedal at all. Get one. Do it. It's awesome.

magic boost pedal
Klon in a box type pedal. I use it just as a lead boost on my main board so the gain is pretty much all the way down. It does have more sounds that also sound great as I have messed around with it by itself.

it does sound like a centaur, so does a soul food ... have you played a centaur? I remember when they came out and were advertised in the back of guitar world and guitarist. I wish I had bought 20 of them and put them in my closet to sell on ebay now... its a clever riff on the a Distortion+ with some Rat thrown in and fantastic buffer, but the Klon is literally the most overhyped guitar toy ever. Though the TS808 versus TS9 debate is pretty comical too.
