Description

The Analoger Series APH-12 is a 100% analog 12-stage phase shifter with deep functionality in a compact footprint. With selectable all-pass stages and our signature control voltage processing, multiple flavors of modulation sit at your fingertips: classic or extreme phase shifting, faux Leslie warble, vibrato and tremolo, envelope filter sweeps, and striking multi-peak EQ curves.

Instead of simply updating a lost 12-stage phaser of the past, we rolled our own from the ground up. We began with 12 stages of voltage-controlled all-pass filtering based on an OTA filter chip by legendary designer Dave Rossum. From there we built out our signature control voltage processing infrastructure, with an LFO spanning from glacially psychedelic to audio rate ring mod and a responsive, funky, envelope follower. A JFET input driver and new saturation circuit provide level matching and colorful harmonic enhancement. And of course, we included an assignable Expression/CV input for even more versatility. With our double-regulated and protected power supply, and low noise emphasis/de-emphasis circuitry, this phaser is ready for any stage or studio environment.

Developing the APH-12 was a fascinating learning experience: with all the excitement of a 12-stage phaser (and of course, there is nothing quite like a 12-stage phaser with a 2 minute sweep) we were surprised to learn how much we loved the under-explored character of the out-of-phase 3 and 5 stage modes, or the utilitarian tremolo-like sounds of 1 and 2 stage modes. Add on top of that the power of envelope followed modulation, and we knew we had something special. Far from a simple phase shifter, this is a versatile modulation toolkit for discerning guitarists and bold sound designers alike. Get that Purple Phaze all in your brain!

Asheville Music Tools Analoger APH-12 Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Asheville Music Tools APH-12 is a phaser that dazzles with its rich, traditional phase tones and adventurous modulation capabilities, drawing comparisons to the revered Moogerfooger MF-103. Despite being pricey at $397, its versatility justifies the cost, offering a feast of sonic textures from buttery phaser effects to wild, experimental sounds. However, the lack of presets and the intricate interactivity between controls can be daunting for those looking to quickly recall specific settings. This phaser is a treasure for sound explorers willing to invest time in unlocking its potential, but may not suit those seeking simplicity.
