Description

If there’s one thing I’m asked to build repeatedly, it’s a “matamp in a box”. While my usual response is to point them to the Ragnarok, what they want is a more affordable FET or OPAMP version. To be very clear, it is my opinion that the whole “amp in a box” thing is just marketing and I’m not here to sell you that.

That being said! The ODIN PREAMP/DRIVE. Cascades both an opamp “preamp” and an IC “power amp” with an active baxandall tone stack driven by two more opamps.

Knobs are, gain and volume below and bass and treble for the baxandall tone stack above. The toggle switch is like the bass boost switch on a Matamp (On the OR120 it’s called the “FAC” but it’s the same thing) only with a three position toggle instead of 4 position knob.

Like a real vintage OR/GT tube amplifier, the gain increases as the volume increases. Running it into the front end of even a clean amp where you can get the volume up, the amount of gain is plentiful. Also, it takes dirt pedals into it incredibly well.
