Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Boss FS-5L Latching Footswitch.

Features and functionality

  • The FS-5L footswitch requires pressing twice to deactivate effects on the DD-500, causing users to miss cues due to unintuitive LED behavior.

    Source
  • The FS-5L is ideal for DS-2 or 2-channel amps due to its latching mechanism, but less intuitive for tap tempo applications on the DD-500.

    Source
  • The FS-5L latching switch can be effectively used with Katana amps when plugged into the footswitch/exp input, not the GA-FC EX.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The DD-500 manual recommends using the FS-5L, but users find the unlatched FS-5U more suitable for expected functionality.

    Source
  • Tone Studio settings must be adjusted per patch to ensure consistent FS-5L functionality across all configurations, avoiding default resets.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners highlight confusion with DD-500's menu terminology, affecting ease of use with the FS-5L.

    Source
  • Users appreciate reduced complexity, as the FS-5L eliminates the need for holding down switches for solo boosts on compatible amps.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Users dealing with 5150 amps must use a TRS-to-2x-TS cable to control both effects loop and channel switching effectively with the FS-5L.

    Source
  • Users recommend using a regular TS cable instead of a TRS cable for reliable function with the FS-5L on the Katana amps.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A recommended mod involves swapping the FS-5L's TS jack with a TRS jack and connecting it to the ring lug for better compatibility with certain amps.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The FS-5L works correctly with the effects loop on 5150 amps when connected with a TS cable, but not for channel switching without modifications.

    Source
  • The FS-5L is effective for activating solo functions on amps when properly configured, enhancing performance convenience.

    Source

Other

  • The FS-5L may not replace the original Peavey two-button footswitch without additional gear or modifications, especially in older amp models like the first-gen 5150.

Neat but not perfect

I used this pedal to switch between 2 'Turbo' channels in my Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion, it was perfect for that application, but I found it clunky pushing it on and off when I had a very crowded pedalboard, but for the minimalist, this pedal would work great with smaller rigs! :)

Very great for several uses!

I use this to tap a tempo into my Digital Delay 7 (DD-7) and works flawlessly. Just plug in and go! I have also set this up to activate a digital camera.

jeeyong_park

Perfect!

I use this to switch between clean & distortion channels on my H&K Warp X Head.

its a switch
