Boss Nextone Artist Amplifier Review - Guitar, Amps, and Pedal Reviews

guitarpedaldemos.com

The Boss Nextone Artist delivers impressive clean tones and a user-friendly experience, making it a solid choice for gigging musicians. Its Tube Logic technology and built-in effects shine, offering versatility and great sound quality. However, the lead channel falls short, lacking the punch needed for live settings, and the reliance on computer software for adjustments can frustrate some players. While it outperforms the Katana in handling pedals, those seeking comprehensive tone editing might find it lacking. Overall, it’s a great amp, particularly for home use and casual gigs, but serious performers may want to consider alternative options.

Boss Nextone Artist 1x12 Combo review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Boss Nextone Artist 1x12 Combo delivers rich, valve-like tones and offers impressive programmability at an accessible price. Its robust build and versatility make it a solid choice for gigging musicians. However, while the amp's various valve emulations are a nice touch, they lack significant variation in sound, potentially leaving some users wanting more distinct tonal differences. With its limited built-in effects and just one preset patch, it may not fully satisfy those seeking extensive customization options. Still, for guitarists in need of a reliable, studio-friendly amp, the Nextone Artist is definitely worth considering.

Very good, but not perfect...

This amp is very good at providing a super-clean, fat sound. Very Marshally in the EL-34 mode and very Fendery in the 6L6 & 6V6 tube settings. The EL-84 settings don't sound exactly like a Vox, but it's a nice and workable British sound.

The overdrive section, in my opinion, sounds awful. And even with the Nextone editor for PC & Mac, it's extremely difficult to get something working with it. Because I use pedals to get an overdrive sound, it's not too much of a big deal for me. I just put the volume and gain on the pedal onto 0 so I can use it as a "kill switch". The EQ can be very effective, but it's not as versatile as a Boss GE-7, for example. The headphone output, for whatever reason, gives a more gainy sound than the sound that comes out of the line-out or the speaker.
